I have found an aluminium YENK0 427 block for sale and I have some questions about it.
How common are they?
Are they still produced?
What is the market price?

I have no casting # yet,but I will post them a.s.p.

If it's an original Yenko block it ought to be worth some pretty good scratch. But what would be really sweet is if you could find the car with the matching VIN . . . there are some on this site that might be able to help with that. I'm pretty sure there is a national registry of some type with VIN #'s. Many of the current owner's frequent this site I believe.

Actually I believe that Yenko bought the rights from GM to continue casting the aluminum ZL-1 block after Chevy stopped. I believe there are a bunch if these over the counter blocks that never came in a real ZL-1. I "supposedly" have one in my car.

Yes Jody has a Early Yenko block in his car. The most common Yenko block has the Yenko logo cast into the front of it. It is a neat piece but never came in a car. To price it you just need to compare it with new ZL1 blocks that you can buy today. The new blocks are supposed to be better so I would assume a 30 year old Yenko block would be worth less than a new GM block.

There is one on display at McHenry Classics in Hebron Il. It's the drag racing version, no water jacketing.

These blocks came in many flavors: water jacketed or non-water jacketed, screw in or press in freeze plugs, tall deck or short (I think). But, they are of the older casting, so they aren't as tough as the newer version (like stated above). In fact, a couple of the guys with the Yenko blocks I have talked to have filled them for this reason.

I have saw more with "YENKO" spelled out, rather than with the actual Yenko "crest", though. Ours has the "YENKO" lettering...but we would REALLY like one with a crest http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif!

There was also a Can Am block that was different then the ZL1 block. I inquired about one that was for sale a few years ago. The seller said he had a receipt from Yenko with the name of the purchaser written on it. The purchaser was a guy named A. J. Foyt. Anyone ever hear of him? I asked if I can buy a copy of the receipt and he said no.

So do you recomend me to buy a nev over counter block instead of the Yenko block??

If you are looking at stroking it and throwing some power at it, then that might not be a bad idea. The newer versions are a lot better built. But, the older block(s) would work, just not gonna be quite as strong, and might need to be at least half-filled if you really build it. But, just my opinion...

The Yenko block is now safe in my garage...

Mine's holding up to about 1000 hp so far. I'm going to back it down some as I don't believe that it is strong enough to handle that much for a long time.

Maybe sell mine and get the new one from Chevy? Right now it runs great so I'm not messing with it.
