View Full Version : frustrated with 94 Z28
yogi May 12th, 02, 05:43 PM Could someone tell me how in the Heck you get the no. 4 plug back in a 94 Z-28. I got 6 plugs in with not much trouble, the no. 8 plug seems to be impossible so I left it alone. I got the no. 4 out with alot of trouble. I thought I could put the new one in but theres no way! I have worked on the one plug for 6 hours! I removed the alternator, but still cant get the plug started in the hole. I dont have much patience or skin on my arms left. Any suggestions would be appreciated. If I get through this, I am going to stick to working on my 69!
mccorry May 12th, 02, 05:56 PM to get #8, grease up your forearm and slide it down between the manifold and strut tower. With your other hand, slip down the wrench... that is how I got to mine.

yogi May 12th, 02, 06:02 PM Thanks. Any suggestions on getting the no. 4 in?
ZZ430DropTop67RS May 12th, 02, 06:07 PM Have you tried putting a length of vacuum tubing over the plug terminal, then "fishing" down in place.
With the tubing tight on the plug, it's very easy to spin for starting in the hole.

CamaroNOTcamero May 12th, 02, 06:16 PM grease up and get creative! good luck to ya.
ToocoolZ28 May 13th, 02, 10:27 AM For number 4, Slide the plug into a real spark plug socket, the kind with the hex head on it. You can then use your finger tips to get it started and use a box end wrench to tighten it up.
For number eight I removed the starter and did it from underneath.
Good luck.

yogi May 13th, 02, 12:11 PM Thanks for all suggestions. I have tried a few already, but for some reason they stuck every hose and metal pipe they could, right where you need to get your hand. I am going out now to see if I can get it in. I hope since it is a new day, I will be able start fresh.
yogi May 13th, 02, 04:47 PM 5 more hours and still cant get that #4 plug started. I have tried everything. I guess I will have to find someone with smaller arms and longer fingers. I have built a 55 chevy, a 56 chevy, and I just finished a 69 rs-ss, and I cant even put a spark plug in this "modern" car. Its embarrassing! Any more sugesstions will be appreciated. Thanks.
CFunK May 13th, 02, 06:55 PM The plugs on an LT1 are a bitch. If you have a skinny friend I'd ask them to have a go at it. I did all 8 my my 97 TA and remember it being a real bear to do.

yogi May 14th, 02, 04:42 PM I finally got it! I actually made a mistake in posting this, it was the no. 2 plug that I was having trouble getting back in, not the no. 4 as I stated. I wont even try changing no. 8, untill I get over the stress of no. 2. Thanks for all the help. I put in 100,000 mile plugs and you can bet this car will never see another plug change as long as I own it!!!
Jeff H May 15th, 02, 05:53 AM I'm not sure why you had so much trouble with the No 2 plug, maybe the 94 is different but on my 93 I had it changed out in less than 5 minutes without removing anything. As for # 8, disconnect the battery and move the starter out of the way and reach up to get it. If you still don't have enough room, you might need to drop the y-pipe. I hate to say it, but those 100,000 mile plugs don't survive and you'll need to do it long before that. You should be good for 25-30K miles for now though.
