On my 69 I am about to get a new a radiator and the choices are 20 inch and 23 inch. I am ordering it from out sponsor Radiator.com. But I have a 69 base coupe with a 350 in it. What is the correct core size, 20 or 23?

20" for small block, 23" for big block

Is there a problem running the 23" for a small block? Will it be more difficult to run the hoses to a 23" from a SB? Or is it just overkill?

If you're after originality, get the 20", if not I'll recomend the 23". Just in case you need the peace of mind in the future cause of engine mods or A/C install. I have a 23" incher on my small block with pre-formed radiator hoses without problem, 'til now. Just now that the A/C was installed, arrises an issue in which the upper rad hose gets too close to the Delco A/C compressor clutch. I need a new hose with a tighter curve immediately after the water outlet to clear the comp. clutch ass'y. Thats the fun of our hobbie.

That's exactly what I was looking for. I don't have A/C and I was just wanting to use the bigger core for the 'peace of mind' thing. I just didn't know if there were major things I needed to change as far as mounting it to the core support was concerned.

The core support has the holes for both the 21 and the 23. The 23 will bolt right in.

The SBC Fan Shroud was available in both sizes. My California (LOS) car with factory A/C and H.D. Cooling had the larger radiator and shroud with the fan centerline offset to the side.
I believe the re-popers sell both sizes still.

You'll need to use the BB fanshroud and upper braket if you use the 23" radiator. The SB shroud isn't wide enough.

My new GM shroud was ordered prior to my discovery of the "Team Camaro Force" http://personal.clt.bellsouth.net/clt/m/g/mgervin/smilies/overclocking.gif , so I got the small block one. I don't have to tell you I had to make some minor mods to it.

Any suggestions on where to get the best price on a radiator ??

The radiator.com mentioned above doesnt have a BB listed on their site, but I assume they must have them.

I would love an aluminum Griffon or Be Cool, but too much $$ for right now.

The small block shrouds came in both 20" and 23" sizes. Most of the the A/C cars (out west anyway) with H.D. Cooling had the larger 23" rad. and the shroud had an offset to one side for the added length which caused the fan opening to be offcentered in the shoud. I have had this set-up on two cars with factory A/C now.
I'm pretty sure that the shrouds are still available from the suppliers.
I have one of each type still hanging in the shop and this thread sent me out there to check them again. These are not BB type, they both use the same mount type and are for SB.

I got mine from Ricks; made by US Radiator. Most of the repo folks have them. They're around $200 (plus shipping). They have the shrouds too.

Griffin radiators are about 200 bucks, I like mine. Only problem is that the stock fan shroud probably won't fit properly

The universal fir Griffons are like $200 right ?? Last time I looked, they didnt have a "bolt in" radiator for $200.

I dont want to have to fabricate mounting brackets etc if I can avoid it.

I just ordered the 22 X 19 Griffin yesterday (It was 189). I'm sure I'll have to do some fabrication, but I'll let you all know how it goes. Does anyone know what hoses I should get? Just order them for a 68 with a S.B.?
