Hi
I noticed today a small puddle on my garage floor just inside the right rear tire.
My first thought was it that it was residual brake fluid since I bled the brakes last week or that the wheel cylinder was leaking. The inside of the wheel is dry so I know its not the wheel cylinder.
It seems to be oil from the axle and is dripping from the leaf spring u blot. Since it took almost 3/4 of a quart to fill the rear.
So, based on the above, could someone advise,
1. what is the likely cause of the leak
2. How hard and expensive is it to fix if I take it to a mechanic.

if you just bled the brakes, maybe you should check the bleeding screw or the flare nut that holds the brake line in.

Definately not brake fluid. I have driven the car for several times and know that that much fluid could not be coming from execss brake fluid from bleeding last week.
Its definately something else, and I assume its rear end fluid. I dryed off the leaf spring U bolt and after an hour, its dripping from there again. The fluid is black in color
Any ideas ?

Maybe remove the u-bolts and raise the axle tube up off the spring and check for a crack in the tube. Just a thought.

You have a cracked spring perch weld. Welcome to the club!

How screwed am I ? Is it fixable ? Do I just live with it and keep adding rear end oil ?

I don't think you would want to "live with it". Sounds like quite a bi of fluid leaking out. Probably just about any rear-end shop can check that out and weld it up for you. Obviously it will require removing the rearend from the car and they should drain the rearend and clean out that axle tube before welding.
