I trying to pick out a stero. I read in Aug. issue of Super Chevy where they added 3 amps, with speakers to their Custom Autosound stereo. For those with this stereo, is this additional power really needed? If one were to expend the effort to install this upgrade is there a better head unit to use. I'm not concerned with what fits in the dash or looks original. I'm looking for good quality sound.

Go with more of a namebrand headunit, alpine, pioneer, eclipse, no jvc,blaunkput,clarion.. Then get some 6x9's for the back deck, 6 1/2's in the door or kickpanels, a decent 4 channel amp to hook up these four speakers, and if you want some bass, have a decent shop make you a custom 2 12's box that is sealed. then use a powerfull amp to power the two 12's, use good wires too. go to my webpage you can see some of my setup. the cheapest and all around good system (without a lot of major bass) is a deck, 4 channel amp, 6x9's, and 6 1/2's

I think in the back you'd be better going with component speakers, 6-inch mid-bass and surface mount tweeter with one 12-inch or 10-inch sub. The 6x9s aren't really the most efficient for sound. One four-channel amp for the front and rear speakers and one for the sub if you add one.
