View Full Version : Opinions, what's the best traction bars for 69 Camaro? Procharged69 Jun 1st, 02, 12:54 AM I have 1969 camaro with monoleaf springs and thinking of getting new traction bars. Thanks 67chvy Jun 1st, 02, 01:51 AM Well I'd like to try out those slide a link bars personally but I don't got $300 to spare at the moment. 67FREAK Jun 1st, 02, 06:02 AM i have the slide a links on my 67, they were easy to install, easy to adjust (they are adjustable) and they work very well. and they look cool on top of that. they are a bit pricey , though. The instructions are really good and they do look really trick. Alot of adjustability. He said that the "hit SOFTER" than the C/E "J" Bolt traction bars that he had on the car before and he saw no change in his ET or MPH. He said that he was switching back to the Traction bars because the Slide-A-Links hang down farther on his car and will scrape during street driving. ------------------ TONY 67 CAMARO R/S CLONE, 355/turbo 350, 200hp NOS,12 bolt,etc... 67FREAK Jun 1st, 02, 04:45 PM i replaced my c/e j-bolt traction bars with the slide a links, no way they hang down farther, they don't even come close to the ground. David bakerdude Jun 2nd, 02, 09:29 AM I use the regular lakewoods on mine and i also have monoleafs. The work fine and for about 60.00 you cant beat it. ------------------ http://community.webtv.net/james778/our1969camaro scottcleaver Jun 2nd, 02, 10:21 AM The slide-a-link set up is the best I have used when it comes to street car traction devices. They do not hang any lower on my 69 than any other traction bar I've used and the adjustability is great. ------------------ SCOTT 69 RS-SS 396 4-SPEED onovakind67 Jun 3rd, 02, 05:29 AM Here's a link to a lot of guys who like Caltracs, and the improvements to their 60' times. With the proper metal and a little welding, they don't look that hard to build to me. I bet I could build them for at least half of what they want. ------------------ 68 468 700R4, and here it is; mutert23 (http://home.earthlink.net/~mutert23/) Codi Jun 4th, 02, 08:29 AM I was thinking of the same thing with my Camaro. Some metal, Heim ends, a welder, and your in business. It has to be cheaper than the $319.00. Thanks for the reply 67 freak. I'm always a day late and a buck short. Maybe they'd be alright for a year. ------------------ 68 Coupe, 350 4-speed Jim's Camaro Corner (http://www.personal.psu.edu/jxu109/) JOE58 Jun 4th, 02, 10:04 AM I put a set of 1967 ET traction bars on my 67 Camaro for a nostalgic look. Did one modification. The old style bars clamped on to the spring and made the car ride like cement mixer. I made rubber blocks for the traction bar forward end so they work like modern traction bars with rubber snubbers. The ET bars are made of 3/8 thick solid steel and are very strong but also very heavy. mobiletools Jun 5th, 02, 01:45 PM I bought a pair of caltracs when there was a T/C 10% discount. They look really good and have heard good news about them. They are going on the car this week. I'm getting the car ready for Camaros at Carlisle at the GM Nationals. Now if can only get this trany delima take'n care of. 5 T-400's in 14 weeks. It sort of tells ya something about the shop. #6 goes in the car this week, and #7 is going down with me in the back of a pick up to carlise just in case #6 lets go. ------------------ 502 Bob 69 Z-502 Nothing like a 69 with traction issues. www.mobiletools1.com (http://www.mobiletools1.com) 69ProTouring Jun 5th, 02, 06:11 PM The slide-a-links are the best. NO WAY they hang lower than standard traction bars. I used to spin all the way through 1st and 2nd gear, now if I really hammer on the car, it will just bark the tires when I hit 2nd. I can actually feel the bars when they bottom, and you can also change pinion angle with them by adding preload into them. ------------------ Pics of my 69, UPDATED (http://webpages.charter.net/gulb93/index.htm) 67chvy Jun 6th, 02, 11:22 AM mobiletools you keep paying for trannys from the same shop??? I hope they're under warrenty or something. Either that or your a knucklehead. What kinda power are you putting to em? I've seen th350's stand up behind 450-500hp for longer. mobiletools Jun 6th, 02, 02:11 PM I sent them both to get rebuilt at the shop. 1 at a time. Paid for each the first time, but they kept letting go (no charge after that, except this last time) The shop had both tranys and MY torque conv. that I bought from them before and he wouldn't let them go until the bill was paid. Funny thing was "the bill" wasn't told to me by the owner. I was having someone else pick them up for me. I work in NYC and can't get back to their shop before they close. The driver for me had the tranys on the pick up and the owner came running out saying that the tranys won't go anywhere before the bill is paid in Full. The driver called me that afternoon and told me what happened. I called them back and was told that 575 was due before they would let the tranys out the door with my torque convertor. Wow, their screw up and I have to pay more money. Anyway, to make a long story short I paid them and had the driver go pick them up at the end of the day. They did get the 575.00 out of me, but who knows how much bussiness they won't get. It's a well known trany shop here in Conn. Alot of us are shocked on how they delt with this. I'm sure many people on the boards that I go to have heard of them too. I see that people have their torque conv.'s from them also. ------------------ 502 Bob 69 Z-502 Nothing like a 69 with traction issues. www.mobiletools1.com (http://www.mobiletools1.com) RickD Jun 7th, 02, 02:20 AM Hi, Bob. What driveshaft and rear do you have? I am in the middle of a drivetrain rebuild and the original driveshaft, etc are prime upgrade candidates. The 502 is out of the car and I had the heads shaved and it's going back in tomorrow (Sat). I'm hoping to drive it down to Carlisle, I don't want to trailer it. I love the long rides to the Nationals. Syracuse was a blast last year. I got in a little trouble with the Law but well worth it. I have a Denney's Al. drive shaft, and have a Currie 9" with 3:70 gears. The tranys were worked on at Dynamic Racing Transmissions. ------------------ 502 Bob 69 Z-502 Nothing like a 69 with traction issues. www.mobiletools1.com (http://www.mobiletools1.com) jaw2 Jun 8th, 02, 09:52 AM i have the cal-tracs in a 69 pro street .with a 600 hp bb. merlin,400 tubo,411 gears 3.5" driveshaft.the cars hooks hard and stright jeff [This message has been edited by jaw2 (edited 06-08-2002).] bigal698177 Jun 10th, 02, 09:23 AM I have traction bars i got at a swap meet for 5 bucks.
