DjD Jul 10th, 02, 06:59 PM No! All SS cars got the SS hood with the fins in 67(BB&SB) and 68(SB), the stacks in 68(BB) and 69(BB&SB). I think once the cowl hood was released interm in '69 it might have been an option though.

Winch Jul 11th, 02, 12:32 AM Was any kind of cowl hood ever put on a non-SS car? I have a 68 RS and I just put in a 350 with Edelbrock RPM manifold, 750 carb and air cleaner and I'm wondering if the flat hood is going to fit. I don't want to make it an SS clone.
Spames Jul 11th, 02, 02:36 AM Winch, you're going to end up with a drop base and a 2" air cleaner. Just like me, and the rest without cowl hoods.

drdave69 Jul 11th, 02, 03:57 AM The ZL2 hood was available as an option, but I believe only on SS and Z/28 models. I had a '69 SS (X55) many years ago and it had the ZL2 option on it.

onemorecamaro Jul 11th, 02, 04:26 AM Two high performance and now very desireable non-SS cars came with cowl hoods. Can you name them? Cowl hoods were an option on '69 SS models.

You could get the ZL-2 on any performance 4 barrel model as an option after it was released during mid production. Very few were installed from the factory. ZL-2 was rare from the factory but VERY common from that point on. http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif

Heretic Jul 11th, 02, 07:33 AM Any four barrel equipped car could get a cowl hood.
dz3oh2 Jul 11th, 02, 07:44 AM How about the ZL1 and the COPO
Winch Jul 12th, 02, 03:51 AM Is there more clearance under an SS hood? I guess that's what I'm thinking of, the kind with the louvers or stacks. Personally I don't care for the looks of a cowl but I'd like a 3" air cleaner. My favorite look is like the 67 big block Vettes. There is a pic on the cover of an older (2000?) Year One catalog. Do those have more clearance? If I am going to buy a new hood that would be my choice.

DjD Jul 12th, 02, 07:06 AM More clearence than a cowl? No! More than a stock flat hood? Yes, but not a lot!

I put my hood on today and the Edelbrock air cleaner with 3" element fits fine. Can't tell how much clearance but I'm sure it's not hitting. It's the p/n 1221 recommended for the 750 with electric choke.
JohnZ Jul 14th, 02, 09:53 AM According to the Dealer Ordering Information, the ZL-2 ducted hood was only available with either Z28 or any SS.
