View Full Version : 1/4 stats for stock 5spd. 2001 Z28 ZKing Jul 17th, 02, 10:59 AM how fast will a stock 5 spd. 2001 Z28 run i the 1/4 mile? Milan Jul 17th, 02, 11:11 AM I would guess in the 14s depends on the driver. ------------------ 67 prostreet BB Camaro 71 BB SS Chevelle (clone) 2002 35th anniv SS Z28 conv. ZKing Jul 17th, 02, 11:22 AM some idiot on this other site was telling me that they could run high 12's to mid 13's so before i said anything i thought i would ask you guys first. thanx for the reply. DjD Jul 17th, 02, 12:31 PM EZ ZKing!! First I'd like to ask that you not drag our site into a fight on some other site, please. Next, the 2001 Z28 doesn't come with a 5 speed. It a 6 speed manual or a 4 speed auto. The car we are talking can indeed get into the 13's stock when the conditions and driver are right. I would venture to say 13.7ish. On any given day a 13.9 - 14.1 should be reachable by most drivers if they have gone down the 1320 before... Now with very few mods these cars are breaking into the 12's so exersize some care when you reply to the person on the other board. Nobody likes egg on their face... ------------------ ...Dennis "The '69 (http://chevelles.com/showroom/ww.jpg), the '96 (http://www.camaroslimited.com/graphics/memcars/96ss.jpg) & the club (http://camaroslimited.com/)" CFunK Jul 17th, 02, 03:02 PM Dennis is right about the tranny but these LS1 cars will pull mid to low 13's off the showroom floor. It's not uncommon to see one break into the 12's on the right night with some slicks and a mod to the air intake. The previous LT1's were good for low 14's and sometimes high 13's. Dennis, you ever run the '96? -Funk ckaram Jul 17th, 02, 04:25 PM I realize we're not talking the same car, but my brother bought a new 1999 Formula WS6. Right out of the box it ran a 13.7, no mods. ------------------ 68 Camaro ragtop, original 327, angle plug Camel humps, 202's, Performer, Holley 650 double pumper, Doug Thorley headers, 3-speed Saginaw, 3.08 posi, subframe connectors, Addco sway bar http://hobbystage.net/camaro/cjkaram/ DjD Jul 18th, 02, 06:08 AM You have to remember the stock Z28 makes about 30 less HP at the rear wheels as an SS or even the WS6. They are all LS-1 based but exhaust and intake mods (and even suspensions) equate to lower times... I've run my LT-1 SS and with no traction (2.2 60ft) turned 14.3 @ 98 mph. The LT-1 has more lowend torque and has more trouble out of the hole. The HP in my '96 SS is rated at 315 - 320 hp and is about the same as a 2001 Z28. ------------------ ...Dennis "The '69 (http://chevelles.com/showroom/ww.jpg), the '96 (http://www.camaroslimited.com/graphics/memcars/96ss.jpg) & the club (http://camaroslimited.com/)" ToocoolZ28 Jul 18th, 02, 07:22 PM Sorry Dennis, I disagree. I spend quite a few weekends at a couple of different drag strips. stock LS1 Camaros do indeed run low to mid 13's, with only minor bolt on mods they are easily in the 12's. My lightly modified 95 LT1 convertible will run with the stock ones but if they have the same mods that I do its bye bye, they run away from me. I would question a 13.2 that claims to be 100% stock, I'd suspect an air box, free mods, a stat and computer tune, all or most. I also can conceed that the driver makes a big difference. You can't just hit the gas and go in these things. Bottom line we've both given ZKing reason not to go back and get in someones face. Bottom line the 4th gen rocks!! ------------------ ...Dennis "The '69 (http://chevelles.com/showroom/ww.jpg), the '96 (http://www.camaroslimited.com/graphics/memcars/96ss.jpg) & the club (http://camaroslimited.com/)" Chris396 Jul 18th, 02, 09:17 PM The LS1's are faster than the LT1's mid to low 13's are common with a few real good drivers breaking into the 12's. My friend ran a 13.4 with his '98 Z with no mods. Stock LT1's are usually in the high 13's low 14's. The SS's run the same as the Z's, at least they do with the LS1's. ------------------ '69 RS SS 396 375hp L78 Convertible, M22, 3.31 posi, deluxe interior, gauges, rosewood wheel, AM-FM, fold down seat, tilt wheel, Torque Thrust Wheels, console mounted 8 track player, chambered exhaust, locking gas cap COMING SOON Corvette tripower, small body HEI, and maybe "842" aluminum heads |
