More info would be helpful. Just a block, or a complete engine, what kind of heads, cam, has it been bored, etc.?

Is it a 4 bolt or 2 bolt main? All those items will weigh on the value. I have a 4 bolt main 400 in my 75 Camaro. It is vintage 1970. It is a great motor.

I paid $175 for entire running car with 400 and second time I paid $125 for just a block.

1973 and 1972 2 bolts respectively.(Oops meant 1972 out of an Impala... http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif)

If it's a 509 block (last three digits of the casting number) and it's a virgin bore, with no cracks or problems, the block is worth about $200.

70-72 400 sbc's were four bolt mains...73 to 80's used two bolt. The general learned that the two's were as strong or stronger.
