Have you ever heard of anyone using the info on this site to track an address down in order to steal the car described in the sig.

Just a thought but that was the reason that I did not list my full name originaly.

From my experience thru conversation with frineds who are on the Police force - all you need is a name and town . . . the rest can be easily gained buy a few phone calls comnbined with an internet.

There have been some cases reported of people listing too much info on an EBay add and then getting tracked down by some scum and robbed.

I think I will set up a post making sure everyone realize that.

My wife was driving along and got cutoff by an idiot... She flipped him off and later that day she got a phone call from the guy telling her what to do with that finger... I contacted the police and was told anyone can go to the DMV with a plate number and a few dollars and get your name, address and phone number. If you drive and show your car I think the chances of someone seeing and wanting to steal it are greater than the fact that I used my first name and city I lice in on a board on the web...

I've had people (one so far) come from across the state because they heard my car might be for sale. It was months before I made my first posting on this site. He had heard of my car from someone else in town. How the hell he found my address is still a mystery since he had no name, no phone number (which is unlisted anyway), possibly a plate number. The car was inside the garage when he showed up so just driving around would not have done it either.

Chances are he got it from the RMV since all you need is a plate number and a contact in the RMV or police department. Unless you have a trailer queen that is never on the road and isn't registered. I really don't think posting your name and town matters much. If people see your car on the road they can get the address by other means. It's these local people you need to worry about.

Maybe I am nieve, but you have a higher likely hood of someone opening your glove box at a show and looking at your registration than someone pulling a name and town together off of a web site and then trying to get an address. Remember theives are basically lazy (hope I don't offend any that may be searching this site for cars to steal) and, or opportunistic.

Don't leave anything in your car with your address on it at shows, or even in the Walmart parking lot.

Joe Harrison From Camden Arkansas,I made my way here 3 years ago via San Diego California where I lived for 22 years. If they tried to steal mine they would have to catch me first. I drive it everyday, rain, sleet or snow. I also drive it in good weather too. When you look up daily driver, you will see a picture of my 67 Camaro. Still on the road as she was ment to be and enjoying every mile!!!!

Steve from Eau Claire, Wis. The safest city in America. The only reason you might lock your car up here is to keep folks from giving you their surplus zuchini or tomatos. We leave the keys in the car. That way the first guy to leave work can start up all the cars in the lot and they're warmed up for the ride home. http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

It's funny how you all are talking about safety in leaving your cars unattended. I don't even get out of my car unless it is being put away. It's weird though b/c down here I doubt that my car would be screwed with since it is the only one like it in the country. Probably wouldn't be easy to get rid of. BUT, in the US, well, lets just say there is a market for used first generation parts or from any old cars and I would be just as nervous as the next guy.
