I'm going to have my car painted in March, so between the cost of that, and replacing emblems, bumpers, rubber and felt, I don't want to push my wife much further. For now, rather than replace my headers or have them coated, I was considering buying some wraps, just for the look, so I can show the car this spring and summer. I've seen them advertised and wondered what experience or thoughts some of you might have? Thanks.

I've heard that they trap moisture and rust the headers but I have no personal experience.

If your headers are already looking rough, header wrap will help destroy them quickly. The extra heat and moisture they trap will make them deteriorate rapidly. Header wrap is mainly for racing setups. So if you spend money now on header wrap, you will need new headers in a year or 2(depending on how much you drive the car). It would be just as easy to take the headers off and clean them up and paint them with one of the high temp paints and they'll look good for a year.

Thanks guys. Certainly makes sense. I had a '65 Malibu SS and painted the headers on it with VHT high temp. paint and always held up very well. Maybe I'll just whine to my wife a little and she'll let me get new ones. In your opinion, is is more beneficial to have mine coated, or just buy new ones? I've seen a lot of advertisement for Jet Coat? Headers only have about 1,000 miles on them. Thanks.

Why old fashioned, of course. Block is out of a '72 pick-up truck. Engine was built when I bought it in July.
