Does anyone know or has anyone seen or heard of a windshield wiper motor that fits the First Gen at a 90* motor angle? It would be similar to the Second Gen wiper motor, that sits parallel to the firewall.

Can the motor itself be clocked at a different angle? Currently the motor is on the bottom with the wiper pump directly on top.

Reason being, my factory 67 motor is too close to the valve cover itself, and I cannot pull the cover off: There is only about 3/16" from the cover to the bottom of the motor. (Mock fitting in progress).

I kinda remember that there was a conversion to a later model motor that set the motor itself 90* from the stock First Gen motor.

Any input would be appreciated.

Kyle Tucker at www.detroitspeed.com (http://www.detroitspeed.com) sells the wiper motor setup you are thinking of.

Charlie - do you know if it's the Tucker wiper motor that Tony has made available at Speedmerchant for the first gen? I know it has intermitant settings.

I have the Detroit Speed wiper motor kit.
It is very nice and comes with wiring and is intermittent.
67 is different bolt pattern.
If you don't need the intermittent function, you could use a two speed motor from an 88 up pickup quite easily and use your present switch.

Anything that is a simple bolt-in is always appreciated and worth the money in the long run. The intermittent 7 speed is the sugar in the icing.....

This thread is about adapting a motor to fit inside the cowl. It's lengthy but might be helpful. The DSE kit seems like a good alternative if it will meet your needs though.

I have a 91 Chevy P/U. The wiper motor is parallel to the firewall. It has about 8 wires going to it? I never thought about it fitting in a Camaro....
Wonder if it would work in a 69?

The 91 is a 'Delay' type and I have heard that they dont just bolt in.....the bolt spacing is slightly different.

I have also been lead to believe that the 88 non-delay might just be a bolt in, as I am awaiting Davids response to verify what I have been told.

I don't think it is a bolt in deal. We have several years of pickups on our farm and have an 88 that has two or three speed wipers. The motor goes to one side, I can't remember which side, I'll have to look at it.
There is just a flat aluminum plate to adapt to the wiper motor and plug up the excess hole. You need a plate anyway to fill in the hole.
The later motors have a tapered spline on the shaft. If you get one from a junkyard be sure to get the arm and you can splice it onto your existing wiper arm.
I'll take a look tomorrow at the 88 PU.

There are also wiper motors for boats that are similar. If you can get by with a two speed wiper, your stock switch can be used, and just make your own plate.

Thanks David. I went a got one out of a 91 that is a two speed and I'm gonna stuff it in the hole. Although I am going to use the Detroit Speed conversion, I thought this and the knowledge of its fitment may be something to do for all whom would want to do it.

Yeah, I figured I've done enough things the hard way and just installing the DSE kit was enough work right now.
