went to a show this weekend and ranked second in class. lost due to trunk, so i've got three questions. '68 camaro conv. ss, british racing green with white Z28 stripes, torque thrust 2 15x7 front ,15x8's rear, with BF Goodrich T/A's. ok here's the question's, #1- trunk paint color: spatter green w/black&grey spects (that's mine) or grey w/light grey spects (that's his) or just a underhood or chassis black (that was anothers)#2- trunk mat: do or don't,and if do, what color? #3- spare tire: original space saver or match whats on the car(thats mine). don't know what he had it was covered. all replies will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Bill, sorry, but I do not have an answer to your questions, but...

Judging by what you posted, it sounds like a points judged show. Unless you are talking about a sanctioned Camaro show, that deducts points for correctness, originality is not the key.

If it was a regular points show, than apperance along with quality of work is the key.

Did they give you a filled in judging sheet? You should concentrate on the areas that had the most points deducted.

So the trunk issue was not if it was factory correct but what the judge liked best as I see it. I say that because you also would have gotten gigged for the TT2's in stock class. Trunk mats and space saver tires were options. I know the blue/green - black & grey speckle to be correct but may be wrong.

Don't take judged shows serious unless they are put on by qualified organizations. Go to have fun and meet other car people. Don't go for the competition and if you take home a trophy let it be icing on the cake... Unless there is a well thought out points system it's all about what the judge or judges like best not which car is most correct or better restored...

thanks for the advice dennis ; we only went this show, just to see how our car stood up to other beautiful cars, so we could make the needed changes, for a points judged show later. it was the first event our car(or us) had been entered in, since completed 2 weeks ago. our car isn't stock by no means, the autometer - tach ,speedo ,& guages in the console took care of that for us. what i'd like, is the true camaro lovers ,like you, and so many others on this sites opinions thanks bill

I believe the "correct" color for the trunk is black/aqua.

When the wife and I go to shows, we take the 69 and the 75. The 69 I restified for her after I restified the 75 about 6 years ago and started taking home trophies. She said that she wanted a car of her own. Our only competition at shows is between us. Of course I really win no matter which car does because I did the work. The type of shows that are the most enjoyable are the ones that are participant judged. Like DjD says, the most enjoyable part is making new friends, finding ideas for future upgrades and just a great day out.
