What do I have to do to install full-length headers on my 1968 SBC Camaro? Is it difficult? Will cutting or welding be involved? I wish to hook them up to an existing stock exhaust system.
Thanks,
Ryan

if you don't have a/c, the passenger side will drop right in from the top. the drivers side is a little more difficult, it has to go in from the bottom, but you should not have to cut or weld anything. if you remove the steering gear, it will go in from the top if i remember correctly. David

which brand makes a difference on install
dynomax went right in (no AC, have ps) both sides
alt mount needed some modding
you might need some welding to hook up to your exhaust if you had manifolds previously

Depending on the brand, the drivers side will be really close to the steering box and you may have to heat the header up with a torch and then slightly colapse the tube a bit for clearance. What ever you do don't let the tube rub on the steering box or you will have a hole in your new headers in no time. Your existing exhaust will have to be shortened and collector flanges welded on. Also some headers are coming with ball ends and you get the sockets welded on then you can connect and unconnect your headers over and over and don't need collector gaskets. Most shops will install the ball and sockets for you if you want to convert your normal flange type. PS if you go with normal 3 bolt flanges spend the extra $$ and get copper gaskets and save yourself a lot of grief. - Barry tongue.gif

I just finished installing Dynomax's. They fit well with no need for dimpling, hammering, welding, or cutting. There a tons of posts regarding brand recommendations.

I installed Dynomax on my 69 Camaro, the passenger side when in from the top while the drive side had to go in from the bottom (you’ll need to lift the car until it can be sided into place).

I did not have to modify anything, they when right into place.

The only advise I would have is don’t fight with the driver side, lift the car until it can goes in easily into place.

Note: I have PS but no AC.

Daniel.
