I know that this is a 1st Gen Bulletin Board, but as I don't belong to any other board, I thought I would give it a try here.
I have a 1995 Camaro, on which the windows (driver and passanger) stops several times when going up or down (motor stops, I have to waiting a minute to get it to go again). I had the driver side window motor replaced in 1999, and it started to act-up again a few months ago.
I don't want to go to the dealer as I figure they would change me between 1,000 to 2,000, while the car is worth about 4,000 (it's a V6).
What is the problem, the motor or the tracks/gears/bearings?
Did any of you had similar problems?
Note: My car was driven in Montreal (during winter from 1995 to 2001.)
Thanks,
Daniel.

I had the same problem with my 95 Trans Am. In my case old age (160,000 miles) was the problem. It sounds like you will need to take your door apart to figure out this problem anyway so here's an idea. Go to a local parts store and buy the power window motor(I got mine for something like $125 from auto zone). Then take the door trim panel off and remove the old power window motor from the regulator.(I'm not sure if GM makes you replace the motor and the regulator together but from the price you quoted it sounds like they do). With the motor out you will be able to slide the window up and down to feel for any resistance. You can then clean/adjust as neccessary. If there was a problem you may want to put the old motor back in and try it before replacing it. If the old motor now works good return the new one, if not, replace it. Here are some very good instructions for doing this... http://csce.uark.edu/~jgbertr/rb/alt_web_page/windowmotor.html It will take about an hour. Hope this helps.

Thanks camaroracerlt1,
That's a pretty good 4th Gen site.
The GM dealer wanted 175$ for the motor while Pep Boys asked 99$. I went with Pep Boys, and I will get the new motor tomorrow.
Thanks,
Daniel.

When I sold the 96 Bird at 46K miles the driver's side window was already significantly slowing down. Personally, I think the motors that GM put in aren't powerful enough.

if it's anything like the 85 GMC truck i had, it might be a simple and really cheap fix. the grease in the tracks was all but gone, and what was left was all dried up. the windows worked- but really slow. i took the door panel off and cleaned the tracks real good with brake cleaner and a rag, then stuck a couple of big goobers of white grease on anything that moved. hooked the switch back up, and after going up and down a couple times, it worked like new. yeah, i know an 85 GMC is totally different than a new Camaro, but i bet the actual motor are the same, and the tracks run on the same principles.

how about a lube job on the window roller rail ....and try replacing the circuit braker fuse ...it may be weakened by the overheating of the old window motor ....its the silver lookin fuse on the fuse compartment driver dashboard side
