I was installing my 400 sb in my 69 camaro ss and I took off the frame mounts to paint. I put them back and the engine was really close to firewall. I think I had them switched...so I reversed them so I have an offset forward now. Is this correct? Everything seems better now. There isn't a difference in sizes of 400 and 350 sb are there to make tigher?

The pads hang off the back edge of the subframe somewhat. For the 350 mount pad the one ending in 07 is the drivers side and 08 is the passengers side. If you get them wrong the crossmember isn't going to line up.

The SB mounts I had have a tab on them that wouldn't allow you to put them on backwards
because they were bent down. Now I have a BB
and those mounts you can reverse, they are 3/4"
closer to radiator and offset to the passenger side of the car. As for your question, all SB's have the same exact mount except the early 265 in the 50's Chevy's. 400,350,327 and the 283 are all the same.

I wonder why it was so much closer to the firewall? I had dented the area for the firewall for my HEI before I did this and the "correct" frame mounts place the HEI so far back that I couldn't get a plug on it. One thing that I didn't have is my tranny mounted on the crossmember, I just slid it under the tail shaft to support it. Could that steeper angle be the reason that my HEI was too close (it was tight before)?
Finally motor mounts on the engine itself are not offset, correct? I don't think I could have switched those wrong?

I would say thats it. If you didn't have the rear cross member in place and the rear motor mount on
(tranny mount) that would cause the rear of the engine to sag therfore allowing the HEI to hit
the fire wall. The rubber motor (block) mounts are not offset. HTH

well, I guess I'll try that. Its a pain in the butt to get to the frame mounts.
