Hi I'm new here. I am purchasing a 2001 Camaro and I am curious as to something. There are four holes in the trunk lid I am not sure what might have been there. I am not familiar with camaro parts as this is my first. It still has its spoiler and anyway the holes are not as far apart as the spoiler. Also to the left of the ashtray there are two black switches but they do nothing.
I am trying to basically figure out what the previous owner had on this car. I am buying it from a dealership so there is no way for me to contact the previous owner. Any clues as to what this might be?

The holes on the trunklid may have been for an aftermarket spoiler extension, if they run along the outer perimeter of the existing spoiler. No telling what the switches are for. Do they appear to be aftermarket?

The holes in the trunk lid may have been for a "ricer" wing and the switches may have been for the nitrous oxide system, ARMED and Bottle ON or PURGE.

Look for holes in the trunk floor underneath the carpet for mounting brackets and hose from bottle to the engine compartment. Tell the salesman/woman you're checking the spare tire and jack. If not there, sp tire& jack, ask for them to be installed.

If you find evidence of a nitrous system installed at one time, you might consider the car has been raced and drove hard.

Your best tool is your eyes and remembrance of looking at another Camaro of the same year and comparing them.

Allthough many people here don't like the movie, I do like it very much! smile.gif

And like previous replies, don't buy a car which had nitrous installed...... very big chance the engine is ready to fail....

Thanks guys. I did find out from the dealership that he had a "ricer spoiler". We're talking the stupid cheesy metallic ones that stick way up in the air.lol. He also had a ton of stickers on it. The detail guys had fun getting off all the residue left behind. Took them hours.lol.
I am not sure if he had nitrous because he did indeed race the car. I am thinking it may have been ground lighting of some sort though. Not sure.
Glad its restored mostly back to its beauty. ;)
