What appears to be a heat risor just below the first bend in the passenger side header, looks to have a spot for a spring (any spring do or is the some part I should get the right piece for (heat controlled opening and closing once car reachs temp?)

The heat riser is available as an assembly complete with butterfly and housing. You can buy them new for about $30 or so.

You might consider getting a heat riser spacer instead. It looks identical the the heat riser except that it does not have the butterfly flap that opens and closes. Basically it just acts as a thick spacer between the manifold and pipe. This will allow your exhaust to flow freely all the times. I put one in my 69 which I got from Rick's Camaros. Since you live in Florida, I doubt that faster warm-up time in the winter is an issue.

That spacer is not a bad idea if you are not building a points show car. They were originaly used on fuelie cars that did not need the riser. The butterfly risers are very troublesome and can trash your exhaust system quickly if it sticks closed. If you do not have issues with cold engine drivabillity you could just wire the one you have open and forget about it.
