Over the winter, I decided to do some work to my 69 Camaro. It has a 300 horse 350. When I removed the carb from the intake manifold, I noticed it had a 1/4 inch thick rubber gasket on it. I noticed it was degraded so I pitched it. Well, I got the thin gasked and noticed that it will not seal the exhaust port from the primary venturies on the Quadrajet. Do you know where I can get this thick gasket? I looked at classic industries but they don't have it. Also tried all the local parts stores to no avail. I tought about doubling the thin gasket.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I believe you may be looking for an insulator. They came either in cardboard(?) or phenolic material. Also, I believe there should be a thin stainless steel, approx .015-.020 inch thick, installed between the carb base and insulator.

You might try the dealer, or do a search at www.hemmings.com (http://www.hemmings.com) or maybe someone here has one. Search the salvage yards? Most common insulator was used on most GM cars & trucks.

They are included in carb kits for early Q-Jets.

Glad I'm not in AZ right now. graemlins/hurray.gif I have the 60043 and it is a thin gasket. I need that thick insulator.

I just rebuilt my carb and didn't get one in the 3 kits I had to buy.

Do you guys have any more ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Is it a spread bore manifold? if so, you need the spreadbore to square bore adaptor. My ZZ4 was an either or, but still needed the adaptor to completely rid vacuum leaks.

good luck '

disregard above, thought you were changing to a holley carb.

I went to Oreilly auto parts and Advance auto. Neither of them have this insulator. I also looked in classic industries and year one and neither of them carry it. :(

HP = Holley carb That's awesome stuff. Do they have anything for 1969 Camaros? Looks like the hot ticket.

Thanks.

I'll try to go to http://1967-81CamaroCarParts.com and see if I can find 69 stuff.

When you get that thick gasket, make sure it has hard plastic inserts in the bolt holes. If it doesn't, you could warp/break your throttle body when you tighten it down.

Keep looking. When I purhcased a kit for my Q-Jet a few months ago, I got the insulator. It's out there!
