View Full Version : 69 grill- correct black color?
AHSOM70 Aug 3rd, 03, 07:09 PM On a 1969 Standard grill, should the black color be Flat Black, Semi-Gloss or satin black, or Gloss black?
I'm going to be sanding down and re-painting the engine bay, and thought while i was at it, i would pull the stock silver grill and shoot it black- Just need to know the right shade.
Thanks!
Ben

Unreal Aug 3rd, 03, 11:36 PM If the stock silver grille is in good shape, do yourself and someone else a favor. Sell it to someone who needs a silver one, and buy yourself an NOS black one. Silver ones are scarce as hen's teeth.
I was offered $1000 for my NOS silver one, but I passed. I put it on my car.
KevinW Aug 4th, 03, 05:21 AM Ben, I wish you were closer. I would trade you my used black one for your used silver one. smile.gif

AHSOM70 Aug 4th, 03, 06:33 AM interesting... Thanks for the info guys! Would never have realized that. smile.gif
I figured it was the same as the 70 chevell/elcamino dash's- all the repo ones start out as gray, and everyone has to spray them black... Guess its kind of the opposite with the camaro ones... smile.gif
I guess I'll hang on to it until I can find a local black one..
This may be a stupid question, but which cars got the silver grill and which got the black?
Thanks!
Ben

Mark C Aug 4th, 03, 08:27 AM All non RS cars got Silver (argent) grilles with body colored headlight bezel areas, all RS car's got Black grilles, except black RS cars which got silver grilles.
AHSOM70 Aug 4th, 03, 08:39 AM Speaking only of the Non-RS style grill here-
Were the z28's & SS's grills painted Silver also, or were those black and only the base camaro's grills were silver?
drdave69 Aug 4th, 03, 08:52 AM Go hear to get the scoop on grille colors -

Dutch69Camar Aug 5th, 03, 12:50 PM My car is a '69 base model, no rs or anything. It was not modified but repainted blue. Originally it was cortez silver. The grille thats in it is black, is there a way of telling if it's an original grille or a repro?
