: Winter Projects
Eric68 Oct 29th, 02, 10:49 AM Just curious, what are you guys doing this winter to your Camaros?
. . . and no smart alecs from Florida saying, "taking it to the beach" http://www.camaros.net/forum/tongue.gif
I'm fixing my transmission and detailing the undercarriage while the tranny is out. It's already on blocks. Nothing too exciting really - that's why I want to hear about your 8 billion HP 632 big block project http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
ps. They're already predicting snow accumulations for Thrusday here in MI.

click Oct 29th, 02, 11:07 AM Problem, where to start?

2. Have Carb overhauled and choke installed.
3. Drop gas tank and sand down and POR area around axle.
4. Degrease engine area and subframe.
5. Pull wheels and brakes, degrease, sand and paint.
6. Install new gas tank sending unit, thanks to Hiway Joe http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
7. remove vinyl chrome trim, sand rust and touch up paint there and in roof lip above doors.
8. Remove RS headlight doors and parts, sand and repaint, install new plastic bushing sets.
9. By then I will have found 6 more. Hope it spring soon.
Snow in forcast here too http://www.camaros.net/forum/frown.gif

Slow69 Oct 29th, 02, 11:15 AM I have an engine build up I want to do this winter.
On the car itself, Redo all front bushings(sp?). Along with that sand blast all front end parts that I can get off and repaint them.
Currently I have no radio or speakers or anything at all. That I WILL fix this winter. It got so bad I caught myself singing the Brady Bunch song on my way to work one day.
Thats it for now, but I have no doubt I will find more to do.

gheatly Oct 29th, 02, 11:28 AM I am also trying to figure out exactly what to do. I took the '69 Trans Am wing by the paint shop yesterday. That should be on the car in a couple of weeks.
Suspension upgrades are for sure - new Koni shocks all the way around and PST polygraphite bushings up front.
After that, its on to the trunk area. I need to clean it up and repaint it with POR-15 and then with the stock stuff.
From a performance perspective, I am going to replace my cobbled together exhaust system. I had to have some areas redone after the Tremec install (really due to the HUGE new driveshaft) and it looks pretty rough - the shop used a very cheap tube bender. Probably will get the Flowmaster kit with polished stainless tips and use Dynomax Ultraflow mufflers.
Other possibilities are a new intake manifold (probably a Weiand Team G) and Stahl equal length headers. Would also love to get a new set of wheels.
67RSM3 Oct 29th, 02, 11:31 AM Finish rebuilding front suspension.
Finish rebuilding a spare 350 so I can rebuild the 327.
Look for a decent M21 4sp to replace the 3sp.
Whatever else the pittance of a a budget I get for it will do.
Refinancing the house comes to mind very quickly.

I got a 67 race car today. 402, super T 10 with a Ram Rod Shifter and a dana 533 rear.
1/2 fiber glass. It needs some work and it's the perfect time to buy one.

gheatly Oct 29th, 02, 04:55 PM Eric,
I have read several places that the Dynomax Ultraflow muffler will outflow the Flowmaster 40 series muffler. Of course, one source was on the Dynomax website.
I think the Ultraflows will be quieter at part throttle and probably just as loud at full throttle. The inner tube is perforated from the inside out, so there are no flow impediments when looking thru the muffler. The fiberglass packing should eliminate resonance.
I know its hearsay, but I read several posts on a Mustang site that guys made something like 40 more rear wheel HP simply by changing from Flowmaster to Dynomax mufflers. This was on supercharged 5.0s.
CamaroNOTcamero Oct 29th, 02, 05:01 PM Eric,
I'm building the bottom end of my 383 (got a free crank, so i'm going to make it a 383). Hopefully i'll get to finish off up to the long block too.
Did you decide to keep the TH-350 in?
The Group of people who i learn from at the track (Bigley, along with quite of few of his friends One of which is a National event winner who now bracket races now) talked me into having my glide rebuilt instead of replacing with a TH-350 since i'll be using 4.10 gears, and since plans have changed to a 383.
Should be more street friendly, since 1st gear is "up in smoke" with 4.10s and a torque 383.
I get to keep my column shifter now also http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
(sleeper http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif)
Good luck with yours, have fun!

rojo Oct 30th, 02, 02:00 AM Plans for the winter include 2000 stall converter, headers and American Thunder system. These tasks were supposed to last me a while and make the winter go by easier. Well I got all the parts within the last 2 weeks and the headers are on, the converter is in and the Flowmasters are laying under the car trying to jump up and attach themselves. Gonna be a long winter unless I can come up with some more bucks. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

Granny's 69 Oct 30th, 02, 07:35 AM Tranny swap....PG to TH350. I've got most of the accessories like a new energy suspension tranny mount, shiftworks PG to th350 shifter conv. kit, chrome th350 trans. dipstick, th350 dust cover, kickdown cable bracket.
Still need kickdown cable, new shifter cable, external trans. cooler, tranny fluid, and of course, the TH350 tranny itself! http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif
(still checking out local builders) I hope to get this thing done before the coldest weather arrives in Dec./Jan.
After the tranny swap, I will turn my attention to the suspension. Next upgrade will be new body bushings to replace the rotted/weathercracked ones currently on the car. After new Body bushings, I will start on the rear suspension with a set of Hotchkis 3-leafs, Poly bushings, KYB shocks, and some cleaning/detailing. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
That's my plans for now....

Brian, Yes the TH350 is staying. I think I narrowed the problem down to the front pump leaking. A new $70 pump and I should be back in business. I don't know how but so far the clutch packs look perfect even though the thing was slipping while I was racing. I might pull the direct clutches out tonight, those are the ones I'm worried about.
daverichard Oct 30th, 02, 09:58 AM Let's see...
Install my new exhaust system (assuming it ever arrives), getting my original carb restored and re-installed, installing a Pertronix unit in the distributor, and doing some little detail things in the interior. That should be about it, but I will either find ten other things to do while I am at it, or break ten other things while doing the repairs listed above.
Actually the most important thing I am doing to allow me to complete the car is taking my wife Skiing. As long as she is happy, she doesn't watch the checkbook to closely.

sik68 Oct 31st, 02, 05:04 PM Well i call them miniblowers but they are just regular ol' under-the-carb blowers. They are like a 6-71 but much smaller: http://www.weiand.com/HiOctn/ProdLine/Products/AMS/SC/SCK/77-144_CSBP.html
Supposed to be a very streetable upgrade that can fit under cowl hoods, and can be run on a normal compression ratio with low boost. Weiand and B&M both make them, and claim about a 100 hp increase right out of the box and of course much bigger torque numbers since their small size is a quicker spool up. If you get a new one, you will probably spend 1700 by the time you are done with everything.
Very cool car you have ProTouring. It was my wallpaper for about a month, and I printed it out for ideas on my car.
