Sound off..."the second amendment...the original Homeland Security" :D Dobek Aug 3rd, 04, 11:41 AM I'm with ya.... Hard to find money for the next restoration - always another gun or Camaro part gets in the way... Favorite Handgun - 1911 .45ACP Favorite Long Gun - M1 Garand or 1941 Johnson (can't decide) Steve TDW Aug 3rd, 04, 02:16 PM I am a 25 year member. mcnwil Aug 3rd, 04, 03:09 PM Life Member here! My favorite, Ruger Blackhawks in 44 & 357 Shtgnr Aug 3rd, 04, 05:41 PM I am a life member. My Favorite gun is either a M1 Garand or HK91, and handgun is 1911 or Browning Hi Power. I also like trap and skeet shooting, as the namer suggests. Bill  supv26 Aug 3rd, 04, 06:35 PM oops mouse button must be sticky..... double post...... supv26 Aug 3rd, 04, 06:36 PM Guns??? Did someone mention guns? LOL I am a licensed dealer here in MO and have been an avid shooter for years! graemlins/beers.gif smits67 Aug 4th, 04, 02:46 AM I have enjoyed shooting sports all my life. graemlins/thumbsup.gif djunod Aug 4th, 04, 04:01 AM Originally posted by smits67: I have enjoyed shooting sports all my life. graemlins/thumbsup.gif You must go through a heck of a lot of TV's :D jay reardan Aug 4th, 04, 04:19 AM Yea, like Elvis, TARGET....reality shows!!!! Anyone with experience.....Question.. I have been seriously considering getting a Glock lately, even though I have never had any interset in them until now. I really like single action triggers on autos, and realize that the Glock has some kind of unique trigger/safety system. So how does the trigger pull on a Glock compare to SA triggger? Is it easy to shoot accurately and get off quick second shots with the Glock? smits67 Aug 4th, 04, 04:38 AM Shooting TV's......LOL!! Good one David! Jay, I have a Glock. They are a very nice piece. I have never been accurate during rapid fire practice, but it is a fairly accurate weapon for a semi-auto. The Glock is easy to clean and very durable. I am more accurate with a long barrel, single action revolver. jay reardan Aug 4th, 04, 04:47 AM That's kind of what I was guessing. That would be the one thing that would keep me from getting a Glock. But I still really want a Glock to carry in my car. I guess as long as it is not as heavy and long a trigger pull as a DA only, I still will probably get one. I have to check the trigger at the gunshop, I'm sure it is something that I could get used to, all i have is single action autos, and I would like to have something different. A friend of mine said all Glock handguns are DA-only. They're a hammerless, striker-fired handgun. the tab on the trigger is the enabler. the pull is a little stagey, and there is some take-up. Length of pull is about 1/2". A1911A1 equiped with a trigger-stop(Most are) travels about 3/16ths. of an inch before tripping the sear and is much smoother and lighter with virtually no take-up or slack. There's no comparison between the two although the Glock trigger is designed for a slow deliberate pull(That's why it's popular with Law Enforcement, aside from the fact that the gun is 'Idiot-proof'). graemlins/clonk.gif Tony67SS Aug 4th, 04, 05:39 AM Yes Glocks are DAO. Check Davidsons (http://www.galleryofguns.com) for info and specifications. Being a licensed handgun dealer for a couple years I have been very impressed with Glocks. I would purchase one myself. A Glock wont fail you when you need it. For target shooting and quality check older Kimbers, Nice Canadian guns and good price check Para Ordinance, for 1911 style, springfield is still the leader, as they have 1911's that retial for upwards of $1300. (trophy match, etc.. gotta have the cocobolo grips) Shotguns if your serious and have money its Parazzi. Although Ive outshot PArazzi's with a Ruger Red Label. just my .02 cents. Dobek Aug 4th, 04, 06:12 AM PERSONAL OPINION TO FOLLOW ----- I HATE Glock's - I got a real good deal on one - so had to buy it. I ended up giving it away free to a friend. Shoot one first - (rent one at your local range) Recoil hit me at the top knuckle (?) of my thumb - wasn't as comfortable in my hand - not something I could shoot a 100 rounds through. The trigger saftey is no big deal - you won't even notice it. I have talked with a lot of people about them, vast majority love them - and everyone goes on and on about dependability. but for my dollar - 1911 style every time. Rent a Glock (and rent a 1911 style if you aren't used to one) - see what you like better. END PERSONAL OPINION ---- Please no flames about this either - I'm not saying it is a bad gun, just not for me. Steve Codi Aug 4th, 04, 07:43 AM CAUTION! ANOTHER POINT OF VIEW TO FOLLOW! With that said, I don't like handguns and feel they should ALL be deemed illegal. I know, I have to carry one (Glock) as part of my job and I do, just as a plumber carry's wrenches or a carpenter has a tool pouch. I train every year and qualify every quarter. I guess after 28 years of seeing people with body parts and gray matter scattered all over creation, I am reacting to what a handgun can do to a person. I know the arguement, only people kill people. True.......with handguns. People are killed by cars, knives, hammers, splitting maul's, etc. I guess I am just sick of the carnage created as handguns are just to easy to come by. As for the NRA, I like the training and guidence they offer as well as other aspects they offer. However, I do not agree with their blanket disdain for any form of handgun control. You'll notice, I only speak of handguns, not long guns which are truly for sport (and on occasion, used for killing people). I am realistic enough to realise there is no way to effectively control the purchase/ownership of handguns and this is the problem. In reading the posts and reply's, you all seem to be avid gun enthusiests who take care with their weapons, properly store them, maintain records of serial numbers, and teach others about the safety issues. You all are the minority in that respect. It is those who are not mindful of the true capability of any weapon that I fear. Leave a loaded 9mm in the dresser drawer for a child to find (how many times have we heard of that one), a loaded shotgun in the closet, etc. You know what I am talking about. A handgun for home protection, to defend myself and my family against burglers. In almost every case, a home is broken into when no one is home. Not every case, but most. One of the items missing is the gun. It is now for sale in the street to the first $$ with no concern over who is buying it. That's how ex-cons get guns. These are the handguns typically used in killings. I've said enough. I can only urge all to please be careful with the guns and practice safety at all times, including storage. By the way, I've had my model 19 for 12 years now and love it. I can actually hit the target with it (most of the time) and I like the 15 rounds it carries. I can "keep em pinned down" till the good shots get there. Scoop69RS-SS Aug 4th, 04, 07:51 AM Well, I'm ashamed to say that I am not a member. I'll fix that straight away. Console guns? I have a compact Glock Model 27, SW40. It can be a nice center console gun, if that's what you are looking for. Very acurate in close quarters. The frame is such that it's easy to rack one in a hurry. I for one do not believe in having one in the chamber and relying on the split trigger for safety. In a center console there would be many things that could grab the trigger, so I'd only give a thumbs up on it IF you were going to keep the chamber empty. Kimber Compact Alum/SS 45ACP, (1911) This will cost you about 350 more than the Glock but when you are dealing with a potential life and death situation, how can cost really be a factor? Can be cocked and locked for instant readiness and also in a safer state than the Glock. It is also a joy to shoot. If you are like me and your eye sight isn't what it used to be, get night sights. The standard Kimber sights get a little lost when looking at a dark target. With all that said, my favorite carry gun is the Beretta Tomcat 32cal. I like the saftey, the size, the cal is small but when I compare it to the Kahr PM9, I'll take the smaller cal w/safety over the 9. So opinion only; Tomcat for pocket carry. Kimber for console and carry if you're skinny. (Though compact, the size may be a tad tight in your wasteband. I gotta drop a pound or two.) Rick. toycarlvr@aol.com Aug 4th, 04, 08:57 AM :( Oh oh.... I don't want to jump in a den of lions... ;) ... but at least I can state my view... don't like guns, don't think we need guns and it's a shame that over 11,000 folks are killed a year in our wonderful Country compared to 300 in the UK, 100 in Canada and 30 in Japan. More folks are killed by guns in my city of Los Angeles in one year than the England and Japan combined! Okay... I said my piece tongue.gif America... graemlins/thumbsup.gif Richz68 Aug 4th, 04, 09:52 AM I have two handguns that I bought in my twenties because I thought I needed them to "protect" myself.... 10+ years later I have NEVER fired a single round. I don't think I needed them then, now or ever to "protect" myself. The NRA's core mission is a good one, but they are too paranoid that their $$$ will be gone if there are ANY regulations set in place. Of all of my friends there are maybe 2 or 3 that don't have guns and I honestly would trust all but one of them that do to baby-sit my daughter in their home. If any of you have ever been to a gun show you would see people there that are VERY questionable in intent. It is not just felons and gang-bangers that society needs to worry about.... what about the mentally unstable ones that have never had a speeding ticket who have been building an home-aresenal/base against to defend themselves against the man!!! FREAKS ME OUT!!! supv26 Aug 4th, 04, 11:32 AM WOW!! This is getting good! Gun control= The ability to hit your target correctly! Everyone seems to be a nut case these days. Still, they support and protect my constitutional rights, so I should support them. (I loved the ACLU comment. Just perfect.) I never ever bought a fire extinguisher because I was afraid or thought I needed immediate protection. I never ever bought a firearm because I was afraid or thought I needed immediate protection. If I needed immediate protection, I would call the police or the fire department. I may be over simplifying this, but I _DO_ have a fire extinguisher and it easy to understand why. Just in case. I'm 48 years old and I haven't pulled out the fire extinguisher yet. On the other hand, there was a day many years ago when the next door neighbor ran to my door with her son because her boyfriend was trying to strangle her. She broke loose, he went for his rifle - she went out the door. Deb dial 911. Now, you three sit there in the corner. Don't talk so I can listen. I would have looked really funny had been armed with a fire extinguisher. If you get my drift. Officers from three towns and State Police show up. He's barricaded himself behind his bedroom door by nailing the door shut. (A carpenter by trade.) They talk him out and I never see him again. She, embarrased or who the heck knowns or cares, never says boo to us and moves away. Did I ever think I needed that gun. No. Do I think I'll ever need a gun again. No. Am I selling my firearms because the laws of probability on another event are absolutley so far removed from reality that... Wait a minute. I'd look pretty funny holding a fire extinguisher protecting my wife from harm - wouldn't I? Roy, you've never said anything that I didn't believe so can I ask you where you got those numbers? I had no idea the U.S. number was so high. Gun shows? errrrr, well, I keep a watchful eye out. Then again, I've been to a lot of cruise nights where I wonder when the last time the guy brushed his tooth or took a shower. I don't think anyone here has the personal power to ban firearms or even inact any form of regulation against them. I know this is bench racing but this is still a car forum... I didn't nip this in the bud when it started because the orignal question didn't warrant it all though the direction things would go was evident.
