rojo Apr 29th, 04, 10:10 AM Get back to work.
Besides, you red lighted anyway. tongue.gif
camaroman7d Apr 29th, 04, 10:11 AM I miss those quakes, we don't even feel them up here in Vacaville. Was it a roller or a shaker?
CA420 Apr 29th, 04, 10:16 AM Stop making fun of the mail room girl. So she walks a little heavy footed and the reinforced concrete floor gives a little...hehe.
rojo Apr 29th, 04, 10:17 AM Now I get it. I thought you were just goofing off and ran a 4.0 in your chair. Hold on man.
Vintage 68 Apr 29th, 04, 11:18 AM Should have titled this 'what's shaking'...
Man - for a while there I thought I was gonna have to send my 'Native Californian' Ars out to be recalibrated...
There was no info on the news for @ 20~25 min
Had to go here to find out where/when/what it was - http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/research/strongmotion/effects/shake/40156432/intensity.html
Seeing as how I'm located something like 4 ft from a major fault in the foothills, these things seem to get my attention...
Royce;
It was a rumblin'-roller - heard it before I felt it.
Maybe I should move some of this stuff on the shelf above me...

383 Apr 29th, 04, 06:58 PM I'll take the occasional shaker, as opposed to the regular tornados, hurricanes, blizzards etc. elsewhere. And they think we have it bad. I can't tell how many times I've heard "I wouldn't live in Ca. because you guys have those earthquakes". SO..!! Tornados and hurricanes kill more people and cause more destruction annually than Ca. earthquakes..... I say yeah, you're right, you should stay put,.. were already crowded, and more people equal more earthquakes. :D
Codi Apr 30th, 04, 06:42 AM I'm in Ohio. It took me awhile to figure out what you were talking about. Now, if you had said you heard a freight train, I would have known. TORNADO season is here.
HwyStarJoe Apr 30th, 04, 06:57 AM Scary! I guess ya get used to them.
I've been in the area a several throughout the years but I've only ever "felt" one. The rest were either while I was asleep or riding in a car (Vegas).
The one I "rode out" scared the panties off me! It was while I was living in SC in the early 90's. I was sitting in the breakroom alone at work having lunch. There was only one other person in the building at the time. I heard what sounded like an 18-wheeler rumbling by outside and it got louder and louder. I remember thinking how strange that was since I'd never seen or heard a truck that close to the building. Then I felt the ground vibrating and thought it must be one BIG truck going pretty damn fast! Within a couple of seconds, I realized the noise was coming from behind me and there IS NO road behind the building!! The building started to shake from back to front.... every wall, every ceiling tile rattled and creaked!! I sat there looking up at the ceiling and it was the strangest feeling I've ever had. Actually feeling the building move! It rolled under me from behind just like a wave on the ocean!! I thought the ceiling was going to fall. The cupboards all creaked and flopped around!! YIKES!!
Then it rolled away. Just like an 18-wheeler... riding the waves on the ocean.

They are a "wave" - a 'dirt wave'...
I was walking to High School (yeah - many many years ago...) with several friends across a large shopping center parking lot in the city of Orange went a large one hit - we all just stopped in our tracks as a large (@10~12") "wave" came across the lot and right under our feet
It was like standing on a carpet that had been rippled under us.
One of the wierdest experiences of my life.
Been in Hurricanes (2), Typoons (2 - one at sea!), Tornados(3), Flash Floods and several Bizzards - I will take the "shake" over any of them any day!
Over in a couple seconds and fairly easy to clean-up after (except for 3 - Silmar, Big Bear and Loma Preta).
Codi:
Actually at first I was wondering why the Garbage Truck was back again on Thursday...
