Hello all,
I am new here and I hope this is not a stupid question. I just purchased a 67 convertible with the origional 327. The previous owner replaced the origional oil filler cap with a chrome plated one. Tonight I noticed a little bit of smoke coming from under the cap after I turned my engine off. Is this normal? I am going to change the oil tomorrow. Are those "high mileage" oils worth the extra money? The odometer shows 19K miles so I am assuming the engine has 119k on it and I don't know if it has ever been rebuilt. Thanks for your time.

That smoke is normal, esp. for a high mileage motor. In 67 they didn't have a PCV valve so they can smoke. The motor must have been rebuilt by now because they didn't go 120,000 miles back then without being completely shot.

'67's DID have a PCV valve.

Funk, do you mean the little cup thing on the back of the block by the distributor? Isn't that connected to the carb with hose and an inline PCV valve?

The PCV valve is in front. Its connected directly to the oil fill tube.

On some yes, but not all have the PCV to the oil fill tube.
Here's a post where we discussed the PCV routing:

67 Camaro's have either closed (optional) or vented (std) systems. The closed system the pvc valve runs to the oil fill tube and back of engine, the oil fill tube is not vented (sealed cap). The vented system the pvc valve runs from the front of the carb to rear of engine and the oil fill tube is vented (push on vented cap) and can smoke. Check pages in assembly manual, closed system is UPC K24 sheet A2 (page 267). Vented system for quadrajet is UPC L30 sheet A3 (page 279) Vented for 2Barrel carb (210 HP) is UPC 6 sheet C5 (page 103) Hope this helps, Steve.

Thanks for all the info gents. It appears I have the standard (vented) system on my early production (Aug '66 build date) 327. Now that that problem is resolved, on to the electrical system!
