: Sylvania Blue Sealed Beams for Camaro?

Any of you tried the Sylvania Cool Blue sealed beams in your car? I had thought about replacing my very old sealed beams with them but wanted to know about other folk's experience with them. I know they are probably trying to copy the look of the blue-white look of the HID lights on the high end cars. I seldom drive my '67 at night except for Xmas parades and thought they might look cool but that might be foolishness. Let me know. Thanks

I am not hip on the 'blue' look, so I went with the Sylvania XtraVision Halogens, they are 3X brighter than standard without the blueish tint.

Upgrade Part Number = H6024XV
XtraVision Halogen Upgrade - Three times brighter & twice the life of standard

Might also consider
Upgrade Part Number = H6024ST
Silverstar High Performance Halogen Upgrade - Whitest, Brightest, 100% Street Legal

Both I would recommend running relays (Mad Enterprises has a good kit) for the headlights to pull power directly off the battery or horn relay instead of off the old fuse box. You'll get the brightest lights and it won't cause the rest of your electrical system to dim (dash, running lights, brake lights, etc)

I've been going back and forth about this too. I've got the old T-3s, and I like the fact that they are the "old classics" that came with the car. But compared to modern headlights they...what's the technical term?...oh yeah...they SUCK! :D
If I did a lot of night driving, I'd replace them with something better and wrap up the T-3s. I still might, but I don't want to get into doing relays, etc. Whats the best headlight without rewiring?

I have a set in my 68 and really like them. H6024CB is the part number. I see nothing 'BLUE' about them. Just extremely bright clear white light. I'm not sure how much better than the old style they are as I rewired the front end at the same time and went to a CS130 internally regulated alternator.

All I can say is that they are as bright at idle as they are driving down the highway and I love it. Not that I drive it that much at night, but when you stay out a little to late and have to head home in the dark it sure is nice to be able to see! Oh and the dash lights don't dim at idle either. Most likely thanks to the CS130 alternator.

Just my two cents...

I agree with Don. The Cool Blues have no blue tint, just a real clear light (non-yellow). They're probably my favorite bulb, I use them on all my cars. I never was a fan for the XtraVision, and the Silverstar is so darn expensive.

Guy's I appreciate the feedback on the Cool Blues. I may just give them a try since I'm still using sealed beams that are probably 15-20 years old. I guess it's about time to upgrade. Have also thought about going to a higher output internally regulated alternator even though my old 37 amp alternator with the original Delco regulator is still working fine.

Nicky, I don't think you would regret either move.

Steve W, After you get caught out after dusk a few times and get so tense driving home that it takes you hours to unwind you'll be ready for the swap. :D I don't see any need to go with relays for the Cool Blues. However, if your wiring is the original 1968 stuff you might want to think about replacing the front harnesses especially if they have been hacked by previous owners. This is very easy to do and shouldn't take but about half a day depending on how anal you are. LOL That means it took me two days. graemlins/clonk.gif By the way... your car is looking great! I love the Rockford Fosgate amp!

Thanks Donald,
Nice to hear from you again, Where have you been?
Your car is like the grail!
I think I will try the headlights. I find myself out after dark a lot more now that we lost daylight savings and the days are shorter. Don't really want to replace the wiring though. Its all working just fine. However, I will be replacing the motor in January...385 fastburn (without the hot cam)! I don't even know what alternator I have!
Yeah, I am a little anal about my car. I'm going through a little hell right now, replacing my carpet after the oil pressure line backed out of the gauge and dumped 1 1/2 quarts of oil into the interior of my car. (as posted in the Engine section) I'll be finishing it up this weekend hopefully. A huge mess!
And the amp is powering 2 6X9 boxes. I'm still not delighted with the sound, but having a convertible means compromises...I don't want to hack up my interior, so that means muffled sound coming from the back when the top is down and the boot is on. The amp helps a bit though.

Twin - I got mine at O'Reilly Auto Parts.

Steve - I've been extremely busy with other matters lately. My Father's estate, daughters' cheerleading, daughter's fast pitch softball lessons, and so on and so on. I haven't turned a wrench on the Camaro for over a month. I got to take her for a spin tonight though and man do I love that car! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Sorry to hear about your Exxon Valdes incident. I would be so heartbroken. I know what you mean about the difficulties with the sound system.
