The Mrs. and I are heading to Vegas for our 25th anniversary on Wed.. We will see Chicago concert that night, then Platters,Drifters, Coasters on Thur. night and Sat. Night Fever on Fri. night. Heading back home on Sat.
What might be some fun daytime things to do while there, within walking distance to Stardust?
We will be meeting friends for lunch one day but otherwise open to ideas that are different. We dont gamble or drink, but there must be some others things we can see or do? smile.gif

No drinking... no gambling.... in Vegas.... throw a little tougher one at us Jim! tongue.gif

Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam). I personally thought it was amazing just from the outside. Pretty cool (literally) tour down inside also!

I'd suggest going to see the Blue Man Group over at the Luxor.. you'll love em.

Bring lots of shorts though, todays high was still 94*.

I should be recovering from the Sept 11 Celebrity bike run that evening with any luck. But some time during your visit. Take a cab to downtown and see the Fremont St. experience. Different show each half hour I believe.
Drink lots of water while your here though.

Well first and foremost, by golly, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!! Some people these days are having trouble getting 25 months. Here's graemlins/thumbsup.gif to another 25 years. (Stuffing your wife in the trunk of your Camaro is not a good way to achieve this :D ) It sounds like your nights are already accounted for but if something happens with your plans, I second the vote for Blue Man Group. I am assuming that you are staying at the Stardust and also seeing Chicago there and will be without a car. You can still see Hoover Dam as Joe suggested if you wanted to take a helicopter ride. There are a few places like this within walking distance of the Stardust. Stop by the front desk and pick up a copy of "Tour Guide" or "Visitors Guide" to get other ideas. Here is a list of some daytime things to do with an emphasis on #1 for the Mrs.
#1) Take her on a gondola ride at The Venetian, its romantic and she will like it. While your there, visit the Grand Canal Shops. The Fashion Show Mall and The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace are similar places within walking distance.
#2) The Imperial Palace Auto Collection is a "must see" for any car enthusiast. About $8 or $9, cheaper with coupon from book listed above. Amazing collection!!
#3) Wildlife Habitat at The Flamingo (FREE)
#4) Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage
#5) Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay
#6) Fountains af The Bellagio. They also have a conservatory and botanical gardens.
#7) Sometimes just popping in and out of the resorts spontaneously will give good results. I've already seen daytime comedy shows free to reasonable just as good as some of the higher end shows.

There's plenty to do here without drinking or gambling, so there's a few to keep you going. Remember the gondola ride ;) . I'm getting ready to do my annual sabbatical to New England and can't take a day off right now, otherwise I would offer to drive/show you around. I've read you are in real estate. Before you leave, pick up a local newspaper or a real estate journal and take a look at whats going on here. It will make your head spin!!! There's a whole normal city here outside of the tourist trap. Take care and enjoy

Take your wife up the Eiffel tower at night. Great views of the strip and the fountains at Bellagio. The restaurant at the base is supposed to be pretty good.

Have Fun

Wow 25 & 30 that's awesome, congrats!! Sharon and I just had our 16th although we dated for 6 before making it official.

Jim, if you and Sue rent a car you might think about getting directions and going for a drive out to Red Rock Canyon ( http://lasvegas.about.com/library/blpages/blrr1.htm ) to check out desert nature at it's best, be sure to stop at Bonny Springs and have a Bonny Burger for lunch. I second the copter rides but spend the money and get the tour that spends some time in the grand canyon.

There's also a pertified forest (Sandlin should know about it ;) ) and a desert indian area where you can climb down into the underground dwellings they use to live in. Lake mead is huge too and I think there are still river boat tours. There's also Mt. Charlston too...

Sorry none of my suggestions are within walking distance for you. My Dad's lived in Vegas since about '69 so when I visit we don't spend much time on the strip or downtown.

There are similar areas near Ryolite and Death Valley but 2 to 3 hours away. Hidden forrest is just outside of town but near 10,000' MSL and definitely 4X4 country. I second the Grand Canyon.

Jim, Congrats on your anniversary! Lily and I just had our 7th. It goes by so quickly! I don't have any suggestions about Vegas, other than maybe get a burger at the nugget. (Go in the back area and order an "awful-awful" ;) )
If you've never been to the grand canyon...you NEED to see it. It's reaaaaaaaly big  Have a super time down there graemlins/beers.gif
