Could put it behind the tag. Just remove tag when at track.

I am in the same position. I plan on making an aluminium piece to replace the right tailight and run the switch through that to avoid cutting into my car or lense. You can use the push/pull rod to the switch method which will work and be legal.

The battery switch, by NHRA Rulebook, has to be in an accessible place for emergency use. It also has to be labelled for all to read with minimal amount of effort in finding the handle AND position of switch function, i.e., ON & OFF.
I used the rear panel halfway between the gas cap and taillight. Don't drill the hole, use a Greenlee punch and use 2 inch wide masking tape to protect paint and tool marks from happening.
One has to rewire the car's electrical system so when the switch is turned off, the engine/car dies, ignition and fuel pump. This means wiring in the alternator as well.
