Hi, I couldnt find a nice forume to post this in, so I just did it here. Does anyone know what Camaro means? Viper for instance is a snake, Volvo means "we are rolling" in latin..

As you can see from past posts, Camaro can mean various things, depending on how you "stretch" the translation. The reality is, it is a more or less made-up word, beginning with the letter C, as was the GM mandate at that particular time. Only after naming the car did anyone try to find a meaning to go with the word.
Here's my take:
Camaro...a pretty cool car that GM came up with in a rush to try to steal market share away from Ford's wildly successful Mustang, and in so doing, almost accidently made a car that was not only vastly superior in both asthetics and performance, but destined to become a true classic.

Or something like that. :D

Though the car's name was contrived with no meaning, GM researchers reportedly found the word in a French dictionary as variation of informal speech (slang) for "friend", "chum", or "companion." In some automotive periodicals before official release, it was code-named "Panther", however, the project designation for the Camaro was XP-836 and some early GM photos show the final Camaro body labeled "Chaparral". Automotive press asked Chevrolet product managers "What is a Camaro?", and they were told it was "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs". The name conveniently fit Chevrolet's "C" naming structure that included Corvair, Chevelle, Chevy II, and Corvette.
The Camaro was initially advertised on contemporary hit radio (Top 40) AM stations of the day in an attempt to woo the young adult market. Technically a compact (by the standards of the time) pony car, but depending on the selected optional equipment, the Camaro could also be classified as a sporty muscle car or an economical grand tourer.

Websters defines "Camaro" as......Firebirds baby brother....
