When I punch it from a 10-15 MPH light acceleration the transmission dis engages long enough for the engine to almost over rev before re-engaging into 1st gear.

This doesn't seem normal. any Ideas of why?

I have: 1969 coupe, 377 C.I.D, 3.31 gears, 700 R-4 with Corvette 2-4 servo, boost bushing, and presure regulator spring.

How many miles does the transmission have on it? Could be a number of things anywhere from worn internals to sticky valves to assembly error after a rebuild. I presume we're talking about 1st gear. Were you in D before the downshift forcing a 3-1 or detent downshift?

If the transmission isn't aged, and you think this is just poor shift programming, consider a transgo shiftkit. If the fluid is burnt, or there are metal flakes in the pan, the kit will be an expensive waste of money unless you plan to rebuild it.

That could be it. It is an aged transmission.
