I know there is no such thing as a dumb question...
Well, how is this one? ;)
How...for I drain the tranny fluid from [I think it's a] TH350? I am not that familiar with automatics. I was expecting to see a drain plug on the pan....nothin'.
Should I just drop the pan?
Transmission is coming out with the motor, and I figured I'd lighten the load. Plus it's leaking all over my garage floor
Thanks

Get a large catch pan and start cracking the bolts on the pan. If you can, raise the front of the car. Keep loosening the bolts more towards the rear until the fluid starts draining into the catch pan. Drop the rear of the pan more and more letting it drain. You might have to pry it a little to get the gasket\pan to seperate.
When the trans\engine are out, be careful with the torque convertor when you seperate the engine from it because it'll slide right off and still be full of fluid.

The THM350 has a lopped off corner. I like to start lossening the pan bolts farthest away from the lopped corner and work my way to it. Then it will kind of hinge down on that one corner. The idea is that it will make a bit less of a mess and most of the fluid will pour out of the opposite corner of the pan. But it is a messy job no matter how you do it. It's nice to have a big flat catch pan to capture the dribbles.

Thanks for the additional advice, Dave!
I have one of those large diameter plastic oil changing pans....works pretty well.

If you're at the junkyard & see a '70-model car with a Turbo 350 in it, look underneath & see if it still has the original pan with factory drain plug in it on the right side of the front wall. If so, get it, & smile every time you change the fluid.
Or get a drain plug kit from the HELP section for $4.
