I recently changed from a saginaw 3 speed to a muncie 4 speed ,so I need a new lock out rod... the one that goes from the bracket on the frame to the transmission, so the car will only start when the trans. is in a certian position.
The resto places want like $30 plus shipping for it and I can make one with spherical rod ends for much cheaper, but I need to overall lenght.....
Anyone have one they can measure for me ????

You might get a metal chothes hangar and unfold it and use it as a guide to make your spherical rod-ended linkage to fit. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thats a great idea !!!!!! I had thought about trying to physicaly measure it, but it seemed kind of awkward......

The "lock out rod" I'm referring to is the rod that attaches the trans 1st-2nd gear shifter mechanism to the bracket on the frame rail.... the bracket pivots and has another rod that goes up and attaches to the steering column.......
I guess the correct term is the "back drive linkage"............
I tried to measure the area today, but I'd really like to have someone measure their's for me....
Can someone with a muncie 4 spedd dp that for me ????

The rod you are talking about doesn't attach to the 1st and 2nd lever. It attaches to the reverse lever. Also can you really make it for what you can buy it for? I cut mine and made it longer for the headers so I don't have the correct length.

Youre right about the attachment point..... I looked at the manual again and the little arrow for the 1-2 gear looked like it pointed to the rod I'm looking for, but it doesnt..... the rod I'm looking for does go to the reverse trans pivot piece...... thanks.......
Yes I can make one cheaper than the $35 it will cost me to have a new one shipped to me....... 2 spherical rod ends $5 and a friend can tap an aluminum rod for free..... so it would cost me like $8 rather than $35......
I have my old one from my 3 speed saginaw thats too short... I could also cut that one and lengthen it but I still need to know the proper length...
