HI All had my R4 rebuilt last week...Noticed a small leak on the floor today. Towards the back of the trans on the drivers side there is a cable that connects to the trans. Turns out this cable is not connected and that is where it is leaking from. Is that the TV Cable or Speedo (Speedo has never worked so I can't tell.) The mounting point is on the back of the trans by the drive shaft on the drivers side. There seems to be some sort of Brass Clip at that point that holds some sort of round assembly in the trans.

Thanks

Yes, thats a speedometer gear Sleeve Housing. You can get a whole kit at www.bowtieoverdrives.com (http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com) that will include the housing, o ring, drive and driven gear, and retainer, or you can visit your local transmission shop for similiar parts.

Hey Brian...THANKS for the help....That is exactly it. That is a load off...Quick question, the speedo replacement is way down my list of things to do...will it effect anything if I just get a threaded cap and block it off for a while??

Thanks

It would not hurt anything no, just make sure the threading is the same so as to not damage anything inside the trans. for $45-$60 I would just feel more comfortable getting the kit above.

There are two seals at play. One is the big O-ring around the assembly. The other is a lip seal around the speedo pinion gear. You can just get that one part (or both) and stop the leak. A plastic cap or anything to keep the dirt out would work. Got an old speedo cable to hack? Could fabricate something out of an old speedo cable to plug it off also.
