Hope someone has dealt with this issue b4. Probably not enough info, but here goes.
I'm looking at getting a Saginaw 4speed for my 69 camaro/307.
It has #3925656 on the main case and #3860042/J147 on the extension housing.

My book shows the box as a 68/69 from a passenger car, Chevy II or Chevelle, but not in a camaro unless it had ext housing #3873886.

My question is, can I use this for my app, or would i need to change to the 3873866 ext case? What could i use for a shifter? And, is there any way to know the ratio; 2.54:1 or 2.85:1 (1st gear), from the info i've provided?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Rob

As far as I know the sag will fit. If you had a sag 3 or 4 speed before, I think you could still use the same clutch disc as well. Not sure about the splines on the output shaft if it is from BPO but as for the ratios look here:

I put a sag 4 speed in my 70 Nova and it bolted right in. Bought a Street Super Shiftter from Hurst for a sag in my car & it fit perfectly & works like a charm. Hope this helps

If you are on a tight budget, any Vega/Monza shifter works pretty well. The look quite a bit like the 68 vette (corvette not chevette)shifter, same reverse lockout.

Hey guys, thanks for the info. The box I was looking at, got picked up but I'm forearmed for the next one I see. Rob

RJG,

Where are you located? If I can square away this Muncie I am looking at, then my Saginaw 4spd would be for sale. It is in my 68 Camaro and running right now.

Forget the Saginaw 4spd and get a Muncie M20 1966-74 with the 1" countershaft instead. The Muncie shifts faster and smoother, IMO. They are direct swap except for the shifter rod and levers.

The only reason the tailhousing is different must be the way the factory shifter bolts on. Most of the Saginaws you find will be 3.11 low gear. I just change the front bearing for drill everytime that I get one. They are always bad.
