I need to shorten my drivehaft on my 69 and everyone I ask tells me something different. How much needs to be taken off or should I say what is the shortend length? How is the best way to measure it? How far does the yoke need to be into the tranny? Or what is the best and accurate way to measure and not have it to long and damage the tranny?

Mine that I cut many years ago for a 700r4 is 46.5" from center to center. I think I cut 3" off the original shaft.

3" was removed from mine as well but 2 3/4 would have worked. I would contact the drive shaft shop that is going to do the work and ask them for their preferred measuring procedure.

Most drive shaft shops use a template that you fill out in order for them to cut it correctly. You might want to call them and ask. The number is going to be around 3", that was what mine was.
