It appears I'll be a getting a 350 that came from a 70 Nova and a T5 tranny (80s firebird?). I currently have a non-original 350 with a 2 speed Power Glide in my 67.
Question, Would you make this switch? I'm trying to create a good driver to cruise in from time to time. The 350 has a mild cam and I'm not trying to create a racing machine. It is worth making the conversion to the 5 speed? I think I'd prefer a manual in a car like this anyway.
thoughts?

I'm still trying to determine if this is a WC or a NWC T5. From what I have gathered it appears it would be a fairly straight forward install and then I'll need to install the linkage and clutch pedal. Anything that I should be aware of?

Be aware that T5's don't like a lot of power. GM never put them behind 350s in third gens because they couldn't take it.

Thanks, Anyone have an idea of the cost to convert an auto to a manual? Are the muncies the Trans of choice? Any other ideas on a good trans for a driver?

For a driver I would go with the T5. They aren't that weak. Can't help with the cost although a shorter driveshaft will be required.
To tell a WC T5 look at the front countershaft bearing. If it is flat across the front then it is non-WC. The WC t5's use a Timkin bearing that has a recess. The outer edge is about 1/8" wide then it recesses. If you can read 'Timkin' on that bearing (from the outside) then it is a WC for sure.
Bolting up a T5 to a older bell will put the trans at a 18 degree rotation. No big deal, still works. Will need to shim the trans mount for that rotation. The input shaft is a standard SBC 26 spline.

I did this swap and am really surprised at how well it went. the car shifts and drives really well.
My problem and the reason why i'm joining this forum is... I've had the T5 in 3 cars and she's getting old. My thougth is to use a Ford motorsports T5. Reason being it does not have the 18 degree tilt and they are rated for more power.
My question: does anybody know if the input shaft is the same between ford and chevy and is the output shaft a 28 spline.
I kind of doubt I'll be lucky on two accounts to make a Ford tranny work. but it just seams like the cheapest option to get me where I want to go.
any input would be appriciated.
