Can someone please help me decode my 4-speed tranny? I was told it was a Muncie 21; however, all the sites I visit say #3925660 with a P in front is Muncie, while mine is #3925630. Any ideas what my tranny is? Also, it shifts opposite of what I would expect from a Muncie, i.e., 2nd gear is first and vice versa, 3rd is 4th and vice versa, tho reverse is correct-over and up left. Any help would be appreciated, thanx, the penguin in Florida

Sounds like somebody flipped the shift arms on the forward gears. The rods go above the pivot point on a floor shift. Here's an ID site:

HI, What way are your dog ears facing on the trannies shift linkage?

The linkage and shift arms point down. As for id'ing the trans, if it has an alum case and has reverse gear in the tailshaft housing, its a Muncie, if it has a cast iron case and reverse gear is in the main body case, its a Saginaw.
