Sorry, but I didn't intend an ethnic slur by addressing the border crossing guards not getting out of their booth to check the rear plates. You must have read more into it.

Un fortunatly you implied our mexican neighbors are lazy... Someone took the time to reply to me about it instead of starting something with you. I tended to agree!!

You really didn't need to restate what was deleted to question it, although you did tone it down this time!

this was something I had to learn the hard way , the net is great a tool an asset and a wonderfull experience but it doe's not matter what you say in the least bit of a tone that either put's someone down or bashing (if you will) someone will take offense to it , if you put a sentance putting down a circus clown with bright purple hair and high heel shoe's , then low and behold a guy fitting the description will e-mail you about it !!!! , I have learned to keep it nice or keep quiet , it work's better that way ,

I wonder if there are any statistics concerning the lack of front plates from having them? There are plenty of states who have dropped them, there should be some sort of stats on whether they are needed or not.

In Alberta we haven't had front plates for about ten years now. The only problem I've had is when RCMP or State Troopers from other Provinces / States see you coming and are on you ASAP until they see the plate on the rear.

Oh and in Highschool I got a $50.00 Ticket for not having a front plate before they changed the law.

I think Camaros look better without them!

I am probably going to jinx myself here but, I haven't had a front plat on my car since I built it (6-7 years ago), I have driven all over Northern California and part s of Nevada and never had a problem. Of course as I pull out of the driveway today I will get stopped  I have had several cars without a front plate and I don't ever remember a ticket for that.

angelglo, why do you think/say they are neede? I think you are a cop, right? I can see how it would make spotting a car a little easier (from the front) but, what other reason are they need? I have never been puled over from the front before, LOL.

royce,

i dont have a front plate on my cars also and never did. i dont like the way they look. of course i do not ticket people for this since i too do not have one. i dont ticket people for things that i also do like california stops speeding, etc. im also not a ticket kind of cop. its been years since i actually gave someone a ticket. anyway, this doesnt help the citizen much but s.f. wanted to enforce missing front plates because of the cameras(not camaros. LOL) at the intersections. they take the picture of the front of the vehicle but if you dont have a front plate, you cant get a ticket. the important one for us coppers to help out the public is what you had mentioned. to be able to spot a car. its not only to spot a car for a violation but for serious crimes that had just occured. when a serious crime like a homicide, robbery, rape, not burglary but a hot prowel, etc had just been commited in the middle of rush hour traffic and there were witnesses describing the vehicle and a plate, the coppers are rushing to get to the scene as the bad guys are trying to get away, we need to be able to see the plate from the front. lets say its a red honda civic. we all know there are tons of them out there. it is easier for us to spot the car with a front plate on it than have to make a u turn for every red honda civic to see if the plates match. this doesnt help you out much if you dont get in any of these situations but you just never know.

The reflective style plates make really good reflectors for laser radar too.
The article I read says they first shoot for the plate, if no results, shoot for the headlights, since they reflect well too.
Maybe we need a flip-up plate! The hot rod guys use them to flip the plates out of the way.

I got pulled over in PA once on one of their turn-pikes in AP Green's gunning truck.

I jumped out and asked what was the matter and the Trooper said I didn't have a rear plate!!

I looked at him and said IN required it on the front!!

He looked at me kinda funny and as he ran back to his car, said have a nice day..

I think I really busted his bubble if you know what I mean..

I have to agree with Angelglo. Front plates do not help the appearance of most cars. I run one on all mine because I have to. They are a great benefit when you are trying to identify a suspect vehicle from the front view. Been there, done that many times. The P.D. I was at has a major shopping area. Lots of shoplifting/credit card/ bad check activity. Lots of out of county/state activity since we were just off the interstate. The front plate I.D. was very handy and a missing plate caught my attention more as some people, running stolen or altered plates, prefer to "lose" the front plate. Stop, check, question, bust, cuff, stuff.

I heard some time ago that CA wanted to make the no front plate fine equal to a red light violation because of the cameras. I have the front plate on now, but I agree that cars look better without them.
