just rebuilt rearend got a new nut from
gm goes all the way on with out getting
tite anyboby else had this problem even
got another nut from gm still the same

I'm not a rear-end expert and have little experience with them. But in general, I believe you install a crush sleve around the pinion shaft, install the seal, washer and nut and then torque the bolt until you have a specific amount of drag on the pinion. I don't think the torque spec applies to the nut as with most fastners. Basically, it's tight when it takes a specific amount of force to turn the pinion - say 50 in*pounds (pulling numbers out of the air). Somone please correct me if I'm wrong. Perhaps this is what you found out Tony.

You are right, tighten the nut untill the bearing preload is about 19 inch pounds for new bearings and about 12 inch pounds for used bearings.
