Got a new cast trans pan at the Super Chevy show this weekend, its a nice one.
After searching here the paper gasket looked prefered over cork.
I had decided that a clean paper gasket was the ticket for the install. But wait, this pan came with a rubber gasket.
Any pros or cons of the rubber gasket over paper ?
Any rubber 350 pan gaskets being run out there ?

I have never had any good luck with anything other than just a cork gasket.And that would be installed completely dry and tightened evenly.And carefull not to overtighten.I have never had a pan like that one though.Good luck with whatever you decide to use. graemlins/beers.gif

Best gasket hands down is the black Accopac type like most aftermarket performance companies like TCI use. It looks like a thick paper gasket, but has a waxy feel and look to it. Put it on dry, and tighten pan bolts to 95 INCH pounds, then retorque after a while.

I've had good luck with the accopac and the cork. I won't use any rubber gaskets for anything, they tend to squeeze out, especially if overtorqued. Since you've made a good choice by getting a cast pan you won't have the dimpling problem with the sealing surface when torquing the bolts down. So the rubber may work with the cast pan, but I wouldn't torque it to more than 35-40 INCH pounds. Personally I'd use one of the first two types and use 3M super weatherstrip (used to be 1300L) or gasket adhesive on just the side by the pan. That way you can use it over again if needing to drop the pan in the near future.

SY1, one tip if you are going to have the pan off again is to lightly coat the Accopac gasket with Transgel (kind if like Vaseline) on both sides. It still seals very well, and will come right off if need be. I do this on race trannies.

Any common parts places carry either of these ?
I want to grab the parts quickly so I can get everything together.

The Accopac should be available at a tranny shop near you if they do performance work, or they come in the TCI filter kits, or I sell them by themselves. Transgel is the name of the lube, likely found at a trans shop too, but Vaseline will work if you cannot locate it. If worse comes to worse and you cannot find them (which is unlikely in Memphis!), email me and I can ship both to you, but it would take a few days.
