View Full Version : Project is coming along...
DjD Feb 14th, 04, 02:22 PM Doing 12" vette/4th gen camaro brakes on the White Wonder and it looks like cash for pads and brake hoses are the only thing keeping this from getting done. Thought I'd share a pic of one of the calipers and basket.

Sorry about the glare...
kobuzz Feb 14th, 04, 02:46 PM How about a step by step and a parts list? I have the brackets from Tyler(Teetoe_Jones) but that's it.
stevo camaro Feb 14th, 04, 02:48 PM Cool! So all the 4th gens calipers say camaro? The rotors bolt up to the stock spindles? I've never really looked at any.
zuma Feb 14th, 04, 02:54 PM Dennis, those will look great on the 69, same question as stevo, is it a direct bolt up to stock mounting?...Mike
DjD Feb 14th, 04, 03:04 PM I'm working on a step by step for the tech reference area. I've gotten everything as inexpensive as I could without cutting quality and will share pricing as well. I'm not re-inventing the brake though in this upgrade, many members here have done the same conversion and even have good details on their sites. Search the Brake and Suspension forum, you'll find what you need.
Stevo, the calipers didn't come that way... I bought used rotors and calipers for less than what the core charge was going to be on the calipers. Then turned the rotors just enough to clean them up and exchanged the calipers for remans. I disassembled, cleaned and painted the remans and the baskets I got with the cores. Mounted new pins and pin seals and found the camaro decals on ebay. The decals are susposed to be heat and chemical proof.
It's been a fun project so far...
This is turning into a bit of a tech thread... I may have to move it to the brake forum.. ;)
Not quite a direct bolt up, I'm using my existing disk spindles. Picked up some drum hubs that have been turned to fit into the hat of the rotors and a pair of adapter brackets from one of the guys on Pozzi's web site.
With any luck the cars going up on stands next weekend and the assembly process begins.
click Feb 15th, 04, 06:47 AM You are so handy Dennis graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Nothing nicer than a little grease under the fingernails. :D
That will look fantastic thru your wheels on the 'wonder' .
69Huggrrr Feb 16th, 04, 12:36 PM Dennis, thanks to some of your Anvil pics I am ordering them for myself! Now I am on to the brake conversion as well but it may be a while before funds allow. What do your stock disc/drum look like behind your wheels.. small? stupid? Please post some pics when your finished! graemlins/thumbsup.gif graemlins/beers.gif
withnail Feb 18th, 04, 10:12 AM Dennis, what master are you going with? The S10 manual? What booster too?
I'm looking at doing this conversion myself. I was looking at Baer stuff but I just don't have the cash.
How much was the core charge on those calipers too?

I also feel having the lug in the center of the spoke helps keep the eyes focused on the wheel instead of what's not behind it. Then if you do step up to pbr or other big brakes they fit into the wheel more than stock and with some color (like red) they should stand out and complement the wheel like any other 17".

-Andy Until I do the rear's I'm going to try to run the MC that is currently handling my stock disc/drum setup. This is my chance to play as it's a deep style 2 res unit. I also have a vette style disc/disc MC (looks alot like a stock Z/28 unit) with a 1" bore and I'll be using my existing stock booster. Since I'm doing this rather low dollar and plan a tech reference article I'm being a bit expermentintal for the sake of research.
You'll like this, the caliper core charge at your local parts store will run you around $50 - $55 each and Cardone reman calipers are $45 - $50 each... Carl C has mentioned www.rockauto.com (http://www.rockauto.com) and you can get the same Cardone remans for less than $30 each plus shipping (about $12.00). They also charge $30 ea up front for cores and when you ship at your expense (could be a bit more than their rate) the cores they refund you the core charge. Rockauto.com is less expensive in the long run but if you have to use the limited lifetime warantee there will be more shipping charges for you to deal with...
