Is there anything I can add to the gear lube in this Muncie M20 to get it to stop leaking??? When I replaced the brand new bad 385 Fast Burn engine in my 69 this winter I took the Muncie apart and put all new gaskets and seals in it because it leaked before. I even used Anerobic sealer on the cluster shaft because this is supposed to be an excellent metal to metal sealer. Well the cluster shaft is dry but the gaskets still leak! I painstakingly assembled this thing using the best gaskets I could find and used thread sealer on all the bolts. It's just leaking from the gaskets and nowhere else. :mad:

The Detroits I used to work on didn't leak :D

Some guys are using a good RTV now instead of paper gaskets.

I would use a good RTV and paper gaskets...use RTV on both sides...

Are you using synthentic lube? It does tend to find it's way through gaskets. Do you have too much fluid in it? If not I don't know I have never used any sealent on a Muncie with no problems.

I don't use sealer on the gaskets either. I don't have too much fluid in it and I'm using 80W-90 GM gear lube. I'm wondering if the gaskets will swell a little with some use. I've never had too much trouble with leaky Muncie's before. I checked the case thouroughly for cracks and damaged gasket surfaces before I put it together and the thing looked like new. Oh well I wanted to take it out and all apart again anyway. :rolleyes:

My M-21 is leaking form the front. It drips all the time whether it's being driven or not. It looks to be coming from the input shaft area. What's the best fix for this?

Join the club....... new rebuilt M20.... it seeps oil from the gaskets between the case segments......I've re-torqued everything and it still leaks. Not bad, but enough to be annoying......
