I'm doing an auto to manual tranny conversion. I bought the new Z-bar conversion stuff but i'm not sure where the clutch fork return spring originaly mounts. I have headers and power steering and there does not seem to be any where to connect the extension wire and spring to.

look on the engine mount frame stand- right at the back of the base where it sits on the frame, there is a little hole for the spring. i THINK the spring goes to the front, and the long bent rod wraps around the headers and hooks to the clutch fork. i know mine fits perfect around my Hedman Hedders without coming withing 1/2" of hitting anything. it really only "fits" one way, so if if hits the header tube, just flip things around until it doesn't hit any more.

Thanks Nova, I'll take a look.

If it does rub on the headers, mine did, I put a clamp around the #1 pipe and hooked the spring there for a clear path to the fork. I've also made a short bracket to go off the motor mount and afford an attachment place but the clamp method gives me a little more tension and helps the pedal return quicker and more positively.

I too use the clamp method (thanks to Rick) and it works perfect. Use a nice stainless steel clamp and never have to worry about rust.

My original wire rod rubbed my headers too. I just made a copy of the original with a thick coat hanger bent a little differently to accomodate the headers. A little paint and it looks like the original! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

You perfectionists may not like this  , but I'm putting mine back together this weekend and plan to just put a couple "L" bends in some flat bar and bolt it to the bellhousing bolt that's next to the oil filter. :D The "L" bends are needed to get ample distance (4-5") between the fork end and mounting point for the return spring.

BTW, I did it and it works like a charm. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Actually the distance turns out to be about 4 inches, depending on the length of your spring (obviously).
