Hey guys I got my clutch out and i want to adjust the pivot ball properly. I was told to put a straight edge across the bell housing and measure up from the top of the ball. I measured over 5 inches more like 5 1/4. Is that the right way to measure the distance? and what should the distance be?

thanks

4 3/4 from block surface to pivot ball.

so i have to actually put the bellhousing back on the engine without the clucth assembly and measure it? or is there a way to set it with the bellhousing out of the car?

thanks for all the help

Sure, you could just measure from the bellhousing surface back to the ball.

If you're using a scattershield, allow for the block saver thickness.

Another variable in the assembled distance would be the thickness of the flywheel, but if it hasn't been turned too thin, it would be fine.

Measure the flywheel from the friction surface to the crankshaft flange mating surface. A new flywheel is about .950" If less than that, subtract the difference from the 4.75" factor.

To do it accurately, drop a straight edge across the bell housing's engine mating surface and measure down to the ball. A 3' level or framing square would work just great!
