Hey guys,

My 67 has a GM 4 spd tranny (not stock), but the nylon worm gear on the tailshaft is missing (the one that the speedo gear turns on). How do you get that tailshaft off? I have another busted tranny that has the gear, but I can't get the back of the tranny off LOL. (remember, I am a doc, not a mechanic). Any help would be appreciated.

If it's a Muncie, you'll have to punch the roll pin out that goes through the reverse lever shaft.

Assuming that this is a Muncie four speed, go here http://members.rogers.com/mlvd/muncie_rebuild.htm for disassambly and assembly instructions. You will probably have to remove the tranny to get the tailhousing (or extension housing) off of the tranny. It may be possible to get it off while it is in the car, but it would probably be easier to take the tranny out of the car.
