Goto the Hurst site, if I remember right, it is inside www.mrgasket.com (http://www.mrgasket.com) ... there You will find the original instruction sheets that can be viewed or downloaded/printed....
I've used them a few times for reference....

I converted from a Turbo 350 to a M20. Hardest part was cutting the hole in the floor for the shifter. Hard only in the sense that you don't want to screw up. I did alot of research on this site before cutting. Found some posts that had measurement, but nothing seemed to be 100% correct for my installation. I started with a small hole. Installed the transmission in as far as it would go with just the stub of the shifter. Kept enlarging the hole until the trans when in. Then enlarged the hole until I could shift into all gears without hitting the hole. Then used the Shift boot trim ring as a guide and cut the final hole.
Other hard part was getting the Z-bar into place. Not impossible just hard to do without scratching it all up. Use the assembly manual for help on installing all the other stuff, pedals, clutch linkage, etc.

Since my car was an original "three in the tree" deal, I have pics and measurements of the shifter hole. Passed the information on to several people and they have not complained that their shifter didn't fit. If you need 'em, I got 'em ;)
BTW, you should post the Hurst # for the shifter that you picked up. What type of tailshaft does the M21 have? 5 hole mount or 3 hole mount? If it's the 5 odds are you will be able to use the original type shifter and probably even a console if you wish.

I changed my '68 ragtop from a PG to an M21 2 years ago... yes, everything firts. T350 & PG are the same, crossmember, driveshaft, etc. NP. If you got the correct "KIT" with your shifter, everything should bolt right up. 3-4 is furthest forward, link goes in. 1-2 is furthest back, link goes out (you have to loosen the shift arm on the trans to get it in.)on the shifter, reverse is drivers side, 3-4 is middle, 1-2 is pass side. all the rods go in toward the pass side. Oh yes, and while I had to move it back a little in the car, the console fits fine.
