My brother recently picked up a car and for some reason it will surge at a very light throttle only in drive but it also surges and vibrates at high speed and almost acts like a rev limiter....So, my question is could this have anything to do with the tq converter because it also will not go directly into gear every once in awhile.....

86Z28, you didn't exactly answer boodlefoot's question. Did you check the fluid level (warm in park with the engine running?).
What transmission is this? My guess is it is a 700R4. Is your converter a non-lockup type? If you tranny is attempting to lock up a non-lockup converter this may happen.

Yes, we checked it the correct way....Also this is a th-350 non-lockup and the converter is an aftermarket 2800 stall not sure of brand didn't dig that far yet....

Sorry about that sleeper86 I haven't been on in awhile.....To answer your question this problem is acquainted with my brothers 86 and it is carbed and that is a good point because I assumed that the vacuum line was hooked up....Well I guess I'll tell to check it.......Thanks alot graemlins/beers.gif
