i read in an older thread that i could use an adapter and use my stock big block 4 speed bell housing with an ls1 6 speed and pilot bushing... i just want to know what clutch i'd have to use with that... a stock 68 type clutch, or do i need one with a different spline count?
also anyone have a mild 396 in front of a 6 speed with mid 3.xx gears that can tell me what kinda highway gas mileage i should expect? smile.gif
thanks

I would reccommend contacting Tyler at ATS. His website is www.t56kit.com, (http://www.t56kit.com,) phone number is 702-245-6305. He is a great guy and can easily answer all your questions.

The easist way to do that swap is with a Lt1 stlye T56.
Pick up this months Popular Hot Rodding- You will see a 68 Camaro with a 396 that I did a T56 into.
You will need an LT1 style pull off clutch to go with the six speed.
My client gets roughly 18mpg in town and close to 25 on the highway.

To answer the question you asked: yes you can get an adapter plate and an extended pilot bushing from McLeod Industries that allow you to use a standard Chevy bellhousing, clutch linkage, pressure plate and flywheel, with a clutch disk that fits the LS1 T56 (1.125" 26 spline). This setup allows the use of a scattershield bellhousing, eliminate the need for any hydraulics and is easily installed and adjusted. The best part is that the parts from McLeod are only about $175.
