im going to have my 12 bolt shortened to be the proper length for a 1969 camaro (not original 12 bolt, its for a fullsize car i think) what is the length of the stock axles, and what is the overall length of the rearend in stock form? i am going to have it shortened 1/2" extra on each side because there is tons of room for backspacing ive heard.

also what is the proper pinion angle for our cars stock?

any help is greatly appreciated
thanks
rick

Some of the full bodied cars (some Impala's) had truck style rear ends. They are not as strong as the car 12 bolts. I don't know all of the differences but the pinion shaft is a smaller diameter on the truck style 12 bolt.

its a car rear end, just entirely too wide, ive already checked it out before just finally getting around to shortening it and making it fit right.

Stock pinion angle (AMA Specs) is 4 degrees.

The Impala rear end is the same internally as the other car rear ends, but the housing ends are the same as the truck rear end. The axle bearings are larger, so you will need a set of housing ends from a 10 bolt or a set of the housing ends from Moser that take the 9" Ford axle bearings. The '67-'69 Camaro rear end is 60 inches wide total. The axles are 29 9/16 long. The housing must be narrowed using a housing fixture to hold everything in line when welding the ends on. If you don't use the housing fixture you may have problems with the splines wearing off of the axles or the axle bearings going bad. Don't forget to get the pinion offset correct. It is not in the center.
