im building a dana60 rearaxle from a dodge w200 to fit my 87 camaro.
The gears are like new, but no posi, i want to weld the spider gears.
But i heard bad stories of welded gears cracking and c-clips braking.
But this axle is much stronger and has no c-clips, so would welding the spider gears be allright?
Its not a daily driver at all, so thats not the prob
i know it will be hard to take cdorners but i dont care.

The gears will still break and can lodge themselves in the ring & pinion and lock up the rear end. It would cause you to loose control of the car, like pulling the parking brake at speed. Welding the gears is never a good idea.

We used to weld the spider gears (jam a 1/4" bolt in them at each contact point then weld it in) years ago in our circle track stock cars. But it was on DIRT. Never do it for a street car, and never on pavement. Holy cow! I can't even IMAGINE trying to drive on wet pavement and take a corner! You wouldn't get halfway through it before you would spin out. Good Grief!
