Tomorrow I'm going to have a posi unit and a set of 3.42 gears installed in my 67. (Right now its a 3.08 peg leg) I have no plans to drag race the car so anything over a 3.50 gears would probably just whind the car out too fast (Its a 383 with a TH350). I was wondering how much of a noticeable difference these gears will make as far as acceleration and freeway driving?

Hey Shadow. The 3.42 will improve the seat of the pants acceleration on teh street, and you will show higher RPM on the freeway. The RPM probably won't increase that much, but it will increase. The new gears may also help keep the car in its power band for better performance.

You're looking at about 250 more rpm's at 60 MPH. You should notice an improvement from a dead stop kick down. :D

2.73 peg leg to 3.55 posi was worth 3/10ths in the 1/4 for me. Probably a little less but I guess at least 2/10ths with a lot better traction off the line.

The rear-end turned out great. I can definitley feel a difference in the way the car accelerates even with the carb not being tuned. And it actually cost me about $70 less than I thought. :D
